Loading the .45-60

I bought a new Uberti 1876 in .45-60 and can't find any loading data for shooting jacketed bullets with smokeless powder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks HF

He means 45-60, go to the Uberti web site. The cartridge was brought out just for the 1876 rifle and other medium length actions. Don't know why you want to shoot jacketed stuff as it was made to shoot lead bullets.

I do understand wanting to reload as cartridges are $4 each. Its listed in Cartridges of The World.

I want to load jacketed bullets because I don't like lead in my barrel. I can get a little better velocity and usually better accuracy. I know alot of people shoot lead, I just prefer copper and smokeless in cartridge guns. Thanks HF

I would stick with cast bullets and light loads. it is NOT a very strong action. not even close to a "45-70" capable action

You might look at XMP-5744; or H/IMR 4198 with 300gr bullets.

Lead bullets of the proper size for your bore will do very little leading. You might want to read up at, then ask questions at:

It's shame you are not from Chino, CA; we could call you Frap o' Chino.

I appreciate the advice and I'm aware of the strengths of different actions, I have been reloading for over 30 years and have loaded from the strongest to the weakest with no problems so far. I have a good smokeless/jacketed load for original trap door Springfield which operates at about the same pressure and was just wanting to come up with one for this caliber as well. Thanks HF

Hey Shoney, now that's what I'm talking about, powder and bullet combo!! I think for now I am going to be SOL on the jacketed load. I have seen a similar load with 25 grains of IMR 4198 so I believe I will try it . Thanks for your time , HF

Henry,
You may wish to start a little lower and work up. I have seen loads from 21 to 26 with IMR4895/300gr bullet.
