An Archive Regarding Reloads and Self-Defense

Over the past year or so, I have seen the issue of using handloads or reloads for self-defense discussed, dissected, rehashed, and virtually beaten to death. It has come up so often that I finally just decided to create an archive for these threads.

This is not intended to be another discussion thread. It is just intended to be a repository for links to past discussions, so that when someone comes in with questions about this, and they will, someone can just point them to this thread. They can just follow the links from there.

I'll start out with the first few links. If anyone knows of good threads in which this issue is discussed, just post a link in this thread, and I'll update the OP accordingly.

Concealed Carry Ammo - Factory Rounds or Your Reloads?

Do you carry with your own reloads?

Legality of using handloads defensively

Legal problems with reloads

Reloading Defensive Ammunition?

Reloads for self defense

Hand Loading Self Defense Ammo

Handloads for defense?

Hand Rolled Defense Loads

Alright once and for all, is it ok to reload self defense ammo?

Handloads as defense ammo

Special reloads or Quality factory SD ammo?

Court Case Evidence.

Reloads for Personal Defense

Implications of Handloaded ammo for Defense

Why JHP?

CCW with handloaded ammo...

Other related threads on this topic can be found here:

Hand Rolled Defense Loads

Court Case Evidence.

There are more, but between what Spats posted and the above, it pretty much covers the gamut of handloads/reloads for SD ammo.

Here's an archive of news reports from the Morning Call on developments in Bias, as it progressed.

Thanks to all of you. I knew that I'd missed some stuff, and you've linked some valuable information here.

Not reloads but the article I did for The Jury Expert on weapons appearance issues and trial:

Great effort, folks!

I would like to add this piece on a real world example:

http://www.armedcitizensnetwork.org/...%20Booklet.pdf

The Hickey Case has many take away points:

1. The myth of the Good Shoot being obvious to all.
2. The use of appearance issues - in this case - the cliches of training being culled from training lit and used against Hickey.

You have to register to play in that forum. Some of our mods work there also and might explain the policy - basically to control the trolls, IIRC.

It's a good forum, BTW.

I have no doubts about whether it's a good forum. Unfortunately, I do have doubts as to whether I need yet another place to spend time on the internet.

While reading another thread, another poster referred me to a thread on The High Road regarding the use of reloads and self-defense. The thread is not only thorough on some of the legal aspects, but it also contains some fairly detailed information on the technical aspects of forensics testing: Why JHP?
