How to re-coat or self parkerize a scartched shotgun?

So i own a Mossberg 500A. Blued finish, is there a cheap and efficient way to re-blue or to parkerize the finish all together? The little dings, and scratches here and there drive me nuts! Thanks.

12, The Sharpie marker touches up the light stuff right fine like... I do it for the requisite "picture day" stuff...
Makes my old junkberg look fresh.

There are also "cold" blue kits that aren't expensive either - check Midway, Brownell's, etc.

The Mossberg receiver is aluminum. It can't be blued. It can be re-anodized, or painted.

Check with Brownells they carry Dura coat finish. Comes in many different colors, even John Deer green/yellow.

I wouldn't do it to a nice gun, but a can of Krylon does wonders for a Mossberg or 870 express.

Like HogDogs said above, the Sharpie marker works great.

If you decide to do any Parkerizing, towards the bottom of THIS PAGE are three downloads that should help out.

The Mossberg receiver can't be Parkerized, either.

Can i sand it? What grit paper is best? I have time on my hand, i want to give it a black color finish. Does Krylon make a good can for this? I'm going to ask at Home Depot, but they lack serious judgement. And yes sharpies work, sort of cause it rubs on, Deco paint is better, but in large areas it shines, giving the paint texture difference away.

Don't tell them it is a firearm, it will just confuse them. Tell the what it is a piece of aluminum that has a anodized finish that is scratched and you want to paint it. Keep it simple, sometimes too much information is not good.

A mossberg with well earned wear and tear has character

Any enamel that is baked at 170 for an hour or 3 will be quite durable.
I used the Richard's 1100 primer on aluminum. Also a pre-wash of "pink stuff" acid. sprayed on the primer than enamel and baked. I have seen this finish whacked with a hammer by guys driving the "pop-pin" rivets and it only scuffed it...

Scroll to the 2 part 1100...

i have had good luck with Brownells Alumi hide. It might be called Alumi hide II. It only needs a good degreasing and heat the gun and paint up as in "sit it on the tailgate of your truck in the sun" or hair dryer warm. I used the parkerizing grey color and it works pretty well. Give it short bursts of paint and apply a few coats as per the directions. Works pretty well.
