Ruger P89 magazines

Hello everybody Im a new member my name is Wesley (probably not hard to figure out) but anyway, I have a p89 and have found some mec gar mags for it that hold 17 rounds and even 20 rounds.... does anybody know about these mags with this gun, I am curious if the magazines hang out of the gun or if they fit flush, and also triple k makes 30 round magazines for this pistol... do they stick out like 6 inches or what? that must look goofy. please somebody fill me in.

The only aftermarket mags I have experience work for the P89 are the Promags, and they work perfect. Don't know about the others.

Anything bigger than a 15 round mag is going to stick out.

I have a 30 round magazine I haven't had the chance to try yet, and it sticks out something like 8 inches.

Where are you getting them from? I bought two 15 rd. mags for my P95 (I think they fit in the P89 too) from The Sportsman's Guide, and they were junk. The footplates were sheet metal that clamped on to the mag. The plastic followers were rough and unfinished, and a little short for the slots in the magazine. The rounds wouldn't feed properly. I don't what brand they were, though. They had no markings.

Ruger factory and Mecgar are the only ones worth your time and money.

Had Pro-mag pistol mags that were absolute junk-----but good results with new production Promag Mini-14 mags----maybe they have up upgraded their pistol mags recently too---not sure.

20 rounders will not fit flush. Mecgar 17 rounders will and 15 rounders (10 rounders also). Factroy 15 rounders (and 10 rounders) fit flush. I stick with factory 15's mostly.

I don't see how the MecGar mags work better than factory , MecGar makes the mags for ruger some even have the same sticker. The ONLY difference is that the factory ones sometimes have the plastic foot which can be bought really cheap.USA's are junk.

i think they work about the same. i think think the mecgars are better because they make 17 rounders. i like the 17 round megs so thats just my opinion.

20 rounders will stick out about 2 1/2" to 3" from the bottom of the grip.
You should see the 30 rounders. If the gun would fail to fire, you could whip out that mag and beat down the attacker.

some P89 mags are different

I have seen factory mags on-line that say for serial number 304-70000 and above. I have an older P89. Can anyone tell me the difference?

I haven't tried any after market mags since I tried Ramline in my MKII .22 Ruger. They turned a good gun into a jam-o-matic.

I own 7 p series firearms and the 17rnd MecGar is nice but it is the same reliabilty as the 15 rounder. The Ruger(and many others) 15 and 10 rounders are made by mecgar.Ruger just gets them stamped with the part number sometimes( pc18 or p18 something like that). So the Mecgars are just as good so buy em up.
