I've read several threads about Remington's extended mag tubes shooting loose on 870s. Does anybody install ball detents which would correct this effect? Thanks.

Easier solution would be to use the semi-permanent loctite, I think it's the purple kind.

A lot cheaper, too.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

My Marine magnum HAS a ball detent that came with the weapon. It's on the barrel lug that fits over the mag tube. The SGT and Vang mag extensions I have both have been machine to take advantage of this detent and the tubes do NOT shoot loose.

You know, I never looked on the barrel band for the ball detent. My M1S90 has it on the mag extension, so I just assumed the 879 did as well. I'll check it out tonight. Thanks.

Something on Mark Penman's page listed elsewhere says that Remington is not doing the detents on new, cheaper bbls. Pity...

I believe Brownells lists a tool for installing these detents. Hard to believe anyone would stop installing such a small but potentially important device -- think of the cost of paying off someone who gets injured over a $0.17 part?
