1187 to be replaced by Versa Max

Today I heard that the 1187 will be offered in limited quantities for 2013 and will eventually be replaced by the Versa Max. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I'm thinking maybe we will see a less expensive Versa Max model offered in the future. What's everyone's thought on this?

I remember when a Remington rep told me the 1100 would shortly be history. That was 26 years ago. We shall see.

I have heard the same thing. The Sportsman model of the VM, in 26 and 28" is suposed to be out this month at about $750 street. The Turkey model will probably be out in Jan or Feb, 22" at about $850 street. Both of these models have different sights and a standard stock without the overmolding and all the fancy adjustments.

They already have the R12 in 4 configuarations for LE/Mil.

The VM runs a Pro-bore choke, which some of the higher end 1100s do as well. I'd be willing to be the 1100 tactical is on the way out as are other Rem-Choke 1100s.

I'd bet the VersaMax will replace the 11-87 before it replaces the 1100. The 1100 is a nice target gun and the VersaMax is anything but a target gun.

I was thinking the same thing Virginian. The VM will probably be the new hunting Autoloader while the 1100 will still be around for targets

Hmm, the Sportsman and Field grade 1100s are no longer on the Remington Website. Those are still on the website in the 11-87 and now the VM. The 1100Tac4 is still there as are the higher end target 1100s.

The new VersaMax 3Gun edition is nearing completion.

If they quit making 11-87s they are giving away sales IMO, because a lot of people are not going to pony up the bucks for a VersaMax. I see no hint the 1100 is going anywhere. Time will tell.

I put about 8k through my VM over a year period. It required two trips back to Remington for repair. My 1100 has been going strong for just over 40 years. If Remington does phase them out, I hope they improve the quality of the VM. After my VM experience, I don't see myself buying anything new from them again.
