Smoothing Up A Mosin Action

My Mosin Nagant M9130 has a stiff bolt and I wanted to smooth the action up. I lubed it and polished the inside of the receiver a little bit and it helped to an extent. I heard something about removing a couple coils from the spring inside the bolt and was wondering if that worked. Does it? I didn't want to do anything drastic till I knew it would work. Thanks!
