H-4350 in a 243 ?

I have access to some H-4350.
However, I wanted to use this in my 243 with the 70 grain Sierra BK's.
The manual shows this powder being used in the 80 grain and up bullets.
Can this powder be used with the 70 grain bullets, or is it to slow.

H-4350 from 41.4gr to 48gr That was off the internet so be careful with it. I think it would be better to use a powder in speed between RL-12 and RL 15 with that light of a bullet, with 4064 getting my vote. My .02 worth.

It looks like it is too slow to make SAAMI max pressure with a case-full behind that bullet.

Probably too slow to be a good choice, but it would still shoot.

It wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

FWIW, I tried several of the medium burning rate powders in my model 70 winchester in .243, and had no luck getting small groups.

I had several pounds of IMR-4831 and made up some fouling shots using a 75 grain Sierra hollow point.

Turned out that the 4831 gave 1/2" groups.

The load was 47.5 grains of IMR-4831. This allowed the base of the bullet to rest on top of the powder charge, but no compression.

So I'd try the IMR-4350, but don't use the 47.5 grain charge since that is a faster powder than my 4831. Start low and work up.

Good luck.

Would using a magnum primer help, being that this is a slower burning powder?
Or should I just move on to a faster burning powder?
I wouldn't call myself an expert on this, that's why I'm asking.

Hornady gives a load for their 70 grain bullets.
243 Winchester H4350 44.0 up to 47.9 max.

I save the 4350 for the medium weight bullets in my .243. I use 4895 or 4320 with the lightweights.

I'm planning on pushing this 70 grain bullet to the max, as it will be used for some long range P.Dog shooting. I was told that by using a slower burning powder, it will help extend barrel life. Less throat erosion. I can use H-4895 or Varget, as I have those powders on hand. This will be a new load, as the gun is on order at the present time. Thanks, Dave

I shoot the Sierra or Speer 75 grain HP over 39.0 of 4895 for 3406 fps. That's in a short barrel; longer ones will be faster.
