Is there something unique about the trigger? That piece on the back is something I can't fnd on anyone else's pictures.
The pictures I have show that trigger on the 1st model and although it's hard to tell, it resembles the 2nd model but not exactly. ???

The SCSW only covers up to late 2004 at CTA prefix.
You'll have to call S&W customer service to get the DOB over the phone for free.

That's not the serial number. The SN is located on the underside of the frames grip butt. If you have target grips you will have to remove them to see it.

Thanks. Knowing it is newer than 2004 is more than I knew before!

See pic for serial number location:
Include all letters and numbers, you can x out the last two digits if you wish.

Model 60; +P safe?

Not new to the world of revolvers, but revisiting after a long hiatus.

Recently picked up an M60-7 from a friend...

He was somewhat unsure on the questions I asked, so I was hoping some here might be able to help (found this site after searching for info on the serial number...)

Basically, it appears to be a SS gun, but can I be sure from the serial number? There are a few small rust spots that I'd like to treat under the grips.

What's the best way to treat? Flitz? Vinegar? I've read some stuff, and while I do have flitz on hand, I don't have car wax (which apparently was step 2 of the protection after cleaning/polishing).

Also... Is this gun safe for +P loads? I don't think it's that old, but I really don't know enough about these S&W revolvers to be sure of anything really.

The numbers...

CAE0xxx
M60-7

Sorry for the rant... Trying to learn as much as I can about this new technology...

CAE0xxx = 1995. The -7's received the new heat treating so it's good to go with +P.
It's stainless steel. If the rust spots are under the grips I'd use some very fine steel wool to remove it. I've never used Flitz but believe it's more of a polish.

I have a question for you serial number searchers. I don't know if I'm doing this right. It's for a pre-model-10 M&P Serial # 17XXX. There is no shroud on the ejector rod, and it seems like the front sight is more akin to a partridge sight. Any idea of the date of manufacture?

That would be a .38 Military & Police 1st Model (Model of 1899).
Serial numbers ran from 1 in 1899 to 20975 in 1902.

two at once

Today I bought my first two (used) S&Ws:

An early Model 10, alleged to be a first generation that spent it's life in Nepal.
The SN is C 120xx.

The other is a Model 65, SN is AJD 74xx.

How old are they? Thanks in advance,

C120xx = 1948. It's actually 10th generation. First generation would be 1899 to 1902.
AJD74xx = 1985/86.

I am a new member. I am interested in finding the manufacture date for my newly purchased model 29. Serial number N135xxx I believe it can be provided via this forum. The revolver is an 8 3/8 Nickel. Thanks for any information that can be provided.
