Hand loading Accelerator rounds
Have any of you fellers had experience with reloading accelerator rounds? I'm going to load some up strictly for fun, and to say I have them, I know they aren't exactly accurate, but that's to be expected. I'd like to know some of your recipes, if ya have them. Thanks in advance!

I experimented with reloading accelerators many years ago when I picked up a box at a gun show. What I found was the accuracy of the 22 caliber bullet was equal to the 30 caliber bullet.
In other words, If a rifle shot 3 inch groups, the accelerators would shoot 3 inch groups. I tried them in both 30-30 & 30-06. Unsatisfied with the results, I abandoned the idea altogether. You many not have the same results, but if you have some sabotted bullets, why not give it a try. |

Frankly, that BEATS the expectations I'd have from reports I've read. In any case, there's no reason to believe that making a .308 cal gun shoot .224 bullets is going to make it more accurate. MAYBE the same accuracy but even that's debatable. I can't imagine the rationale to expect IMPROVED accuracy. ---------------------- To the OP, if you don't already have the supplies, EABco sells all of it and they have a pretty good amount of load data too. http://www.eabco.com/Reports/report04.html

Agree Brian, 3" was the best I could do. at 100 yd.
I remember when the accelerators first came out. I believe it was 1977/8. The whole concept was created as a way to use your 30 cal deer rifle as a varmint rifle. In reality, the concept seemed like a good idea. If you believed some of the gun writers reviews of the accelerators when they were introduced, you would believe you NO longer needed a varmint rifle. Thus, I will admit to drinking that koolaid. Last edited by chiefr; March 13, 2013 at 06:46 PM. |

I'd be more upset with a gun that wouldn't shoot better than 3" with the proper bullets than I would the accelerators.

That's funny. Just pulled the trigger (forgive the pun) on my sabot order from EABCO as well. I'm curious what SS109 bullets will do to steel at 4200 fps or so.

I dont remember the loads, both with V-max, but my 30-30 loads werent that great. Very fast but little accuracy.
My 30-06 loads werent any better until I pulled the V-max out and put a 223 cast bullet in. Then the accuracy was good but I never tried a different powder charge. VERY, VERY fast though. |

Keep in Mind 30 Caliber Twist rates…..
Just remember True SS-109s are a little long compared to other 62 grainers. |
