Caps for my ROA ?

Going tomarrow to pick up some .457 balls for the Walker and my new to me ROA.

I just tried a CCI #10 cap and it seams to tight on the nipple compared to the Walker and Pietta 1858.

Should I get CCI #11 or Remington #11.

I have read some bad things about Remington caps, or is it just internet blah ?

Plan to go out Sunday and test fire the ROA.

I have some Treso nipples coming for the ROA and they say to use #11 caps.

So what are the best caps out there now ?

CCI No. 11 Standard

Remington #10. I don't where you heard the remington caps weren't any good. I've tried both and the Remington fit better but the cci never failed to fire. By both and see which works better every gun ain't the same and some caps fit better on other guns. Every gun has it's likes and dislikes you'll just have to see wich your gun prefers

#10 caps are too small. They are at least for my ROA. #10 does not fit the nipple. I have to put them on, then hit it twice with the hammer in order for it to fire, which is unpredictable and annoying. Get #11's.

You need to identify the brand. CCI No. 10's are indeed smaller than CCI No. 11's, but Remington No. 10's are larger than Remington No. 11's.

Im not sure that can be true because I can't use #10 Rem caps, but i can use #11 Rem caps. The chart indicates that #11 Rem is smaller in diameter than #10 Rem.

Your're welcome to measure your own.

The inside diameter measurement is very difficult to make reliably with hand tools. Those numbers are subject to an error of 0.002 to 0.004 inches; I think you can consider the openings on all but the CCI No. 10 to be the same size. You don't get 3 decimal place precision for 4 cents apiece.

The number to consider is the height, or overall length. Since the nipple cone is tapered that value plays a very important part in how the cap fits. Remington No. 11's fit your gun's nipples better because the taper is greater, not because the caps are larger.

In addition, it's important to understand that caps will vary in dimensions from lot to lot; it's that 4 cent thing again. What fits today may not fit with the next batch. Bottom line is that cap sizes are a crap shoot.

I have two ROA's. One stainless. No. 11 CCI works just fine with my revolvers.

I do not know why the instruction manual says to use No 10 caps. They do not fit right on my revolvers IMO.

Well I picked up a couple hundred .457" Speer balls and CCI #11 caps.

The #11's definetly fit better.
I could see why the #10's would need a double tap to set them off.

I picked up some .50cal felt wads by mistake.
Would it hurt anything to use them in a low volume powder charge to take up some space, or should I return them and get the .45cal ?

Treso nipples came in Friday.
CCI #11's worked fine and the 50cal felt wads worked fine also.
