Mossberg Tactical .22

What are Yall's thoughts on the Mossberg TAC .22 (plinkster)? I have an opportunity to buy 1, new in box, for $430. With 2 mags and a box of 300 rounds. I've seen mixed reviews on it.

Can`t say from owning one I know a guy at work that has one I shoot a lot. And so far it shoots decent. Can not say about the rest of them.HOGSHOOTER

In my opinion, the whole purpose of a "tactical" .22 is to give you the feel of a full-power rifle. For example, the M&P 15 .22 is perfect for training and practice because its function mimics that of an AR-15.

But the Mossberg only looks like an AR-15; its actual function is completely different. And for those of us used to the AR-15 platform, it is deceptively and frustratingly different.

The Mossbeeg seems to be the least expensive of the "tactical" .22 rifle class, but all you get with it is looks; if you want a .22 that functions like a tactical centerfire rifle you need to look elsewhere. And there are many non-tactical .22 semi-auto rifles that perform better and are cheaper than the Mossberg.

Thanks, thaw what I was wondering. I guess it's not worth $430. I really don't need another .22 anyways. I've got a couple of 10/22's, that I love.

Never owned or shot one, but I held one before, and the whole thing is plastic, even the rails. It feels very cheap. Consider saving up a little bit and getting the Sig 522. It goes for about $500, and is a very nice tactical .22.

I looked at it but when I held it, I couldn't believe how cheaply made it was. Went with a 15-22 which has been outstanding. The money they are asking is WAY high and gets you into the 15-22 range.

^That..... and we get a lot returned do to breaking.

It's literally a 702 Plinkster action inside a plastic clam shell...... I have owned airsoft guns and pellet rifles much much nicer than it.

Also its a $200 gun.... not a $400 gun, I don't care even if it was listed on a Bill by name I would never pay more than $200 on it, well I wouldn't spend anything on it but you get my point.

If you already looking at spending that much, spend about the same and get a S&W MP22 they are much much nicer.

ipaid 240 for a 715t from wal mart and hated it. i've never hated a gun before. stand it upright and hold it by the plastic and you can wiggle the barrel a good eighth of an inch either way. put a laser on it and bench it and it will be all over the place. it never jammed but i despised it. the only good thing is that i sold it for 40 bucks more a week after i bought it. the price you're quoting is far too much. i took my money and put it towards a s&w 15/22 tactical and love it. my advise is don'y waste your money.

Its pretty much the cheapest available m4 looking .22 and it shows every bit of it... If theres other options, look into them. I cant recommend any of the Umarex import .22s either (Colt M4, H&K 416, H&K (Walther-licensed Umarex imported i believe) MP-5). The barrel as it appears is of normal profile, but it is actually a very very thin barrel with a sleeve over it to appear like an adequately thick barrel. Plus a complete field strip results in a voided warranty, what is that?

If it were me, I'd buy a Ruger 10/22 and install a Choate pistol grip stock on it before I would buy the Mossberg. Cheaper overall, better gun IMO and "tactical" enough.

My cousin has one. It is a cheap Mossberg Plinkster in a cheap plastic shell.

If you want a good semi-auto .22LR, get a Ruger 10/22.

If you want a good plastic AR replica in .22LR, get a S&W M&P 15-22.

If you really want an AR-15 in .22LR, that will serve as a true trainer (correct manual of arms and weight/balance) get one of the CMMG (or similar) AR-15s (or uppers) chambered in .22LR. I have one. It's fantastic. Accurate, reliable, and durable.
