Dumb idea even if the ammo was loaded with only a bullet and a case with no powder and primer.

It's just a picture. My digital camera has a big viewscreen that allows snapping a picture from the side while being able to see the picture. You guys harping on the stupidness and supposed lack of safety forgot to question if it was legal or if he needed a permit to take such a picture.

The picture shows what someone pointing the gun at their own head would see. Whether a hand, head, camera or mirror is actually in front of the muzzle is irrelevant. The picture shows what someone with their head in the wrong place would see, thereby suggesting that juxtaposition to fools viewing the picture.

All judgement aside, though, every muzzle is always pointed SOMEWHERE.

Putting judgement in, don't suggest stupid things to others. Some are stupid enough to take a hint. And that picture IS suggestive.

Be safe. Always, all ways.

His gun, his camera. Not worth the getting old ladie's panties in a bunch. There are much more relevant (to gun related things), more interesting things to argue about.

Nitwits like that shouldn't have guns. They give all responsible gun owners a bad name.

It seems like those who are poo-pooing the picture as not a big deal at all must not be seeing the same thing I am. I'm envisioning a not-very-careful person messing around with a loaded gun taking pictures down the barrel. Who knows how many images he took? Who knows what kind of gun handling he was using during the photo session? All you're looking at is a static image of a bullet in a barrel. What I'm seeing is the whole session, and I wouldn't want to be there during that particular "photo op".

Who here would seriously take a loaded pistol out of a holster/safe/whatever and start taking pictures of it before checking, and double checking, that it wasn't loaded? Do you also do other things with it loaded?

No matter how trivial some think it is, I still say it's stupid and completely irresponsible handling of a loaded gun.

Because your finger isn't on the trigger doesn't mean that it is okay to point it at them.

Guys, I seen videos worse than this. "Tactical drills" poor muzzle/finger/gun control...... Just watch a bunch of youtube videos on drills/live fire, you will find a few that have bad control of muzzle.

I didn't say it was trivial, and I do think everyone should be safe with firearms. But, there's safety, and then there's over-reacting to something as some in this thread have done.

1) "Ladies." Please forgive me for taking offense at those who use sex as a slur -- just as I would at those who use race as a slur. It's offensive. Please don't do it.

2) I have several pictures similar to this one on my computer, nearly all with unloaded guns. All were taken safely with a tripod and timer, with a safe backstop behind the camera. (There's one example near the bottom of this article: https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ccm...er-three-rules. My husband took that picture of our buddy Don, using a tripod and a timer, while I watched. I love the image, and it provided exactly what I needed to illustrate the point I wanted to make.)

3) It is not okay to point a firearm (loaded or not) at another human being unless you are legally, morally, & ethically clear to shoot them.

4) In my state, it is literally illegal to point a firearm at another person, whether or not the gun is loaded. It's a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $5k fine.

I have to wonder how such a picture would help sell the gun in the first place!!

Is it to illustrate that, indeed, roundsdo fit the chamber?
Is it to give you a BG's view (assuming the BG runs around with a head torch on all the time)?
Dunno.

Besides... the safety was probably on, so...

Lots of perfectly safe ways to take that photo. A camera on a tripod with a timer, or a mirror come to mind. But with the way his hand is wrapped around the gun I'd bet he is not doing it safely.

I think the fact that this picture was brought here as being 'in question',...

A)on a gun site

B) by the OP,a gun owner with a pro-gun mindset(assumption on my part)

C) and has generated this kind of debate among gun enthusiasts...

.... speaks volume's in of itself. And again, we are gun enthusiasts.

Just think what an anti-gun site could do with this picture as well.

IMO, even though pics. like this CAN be taken safely, just not a picture that promotes safe gun handling and can easily be used as an image to make gun owners look like morons. Or at least cause a debate as it has here.

I predict the photographer will live a long and prosperous life and I hope he's enjoying the ruckus he's caused.

Guns don't go off in holsters, guns don't go off sitting on night stands or tucked in drawers. Guns do not go off in their cases and this one did not go off just because he stuck his face in front of it.

Maybe the gun was photoshopped in, and NO one was ever in danger.

Long time ago Jeff Cooper wrote that he had heard (but not experienced) that the most intimidating handgun was a .45 revolver due to you seeing the huge bore and the SIX HUGE BULLETS pointing at you.

That does make one ponder.
