My Range Drill

Hello All,

I just wanted to run through my normal range drills and see if you guys cant offer any suggestions or insight. Mod's, if this belongs somewhere where else, by all means.... I shoot a P239 9mm. in DA. I start my target out at 10 yards and do regular slow fire for a little bit, sorta of to warm up. I then bring it in to seven yards and switch to my carry ammo (ussually Hydra shok, right now Im trying gold dot short barrel) At seven yards I do double taps for a little bit and then bring it in to about 5 yards and holster up. Still using my carry ammo I do draw and fire, pretty much unloading an entire mag as quickly as i can and staying on target as best I can. So hows all this sound? What's your normal range routine if any?

range drills

I always find that if I do too much fast shooting at close range, I train myself into a trigger jerk. So I do lots of practice at a medium pace at 50 feet, on either an IPSC or IDPA silhouette or an NRA B-34 1/2 scale target.

But that's just me . . .

Vary your drills more, 5 yards try double tap pause double tap, then double tap pause then weak hand double tap. then practice reloads 1 handed.

I get bored easily, and like to have goals to reach for. That means two things:

1) A lot of my serious practice happens with a friend or two, so we can challenge each other to do better, work harder, learn more.

And

2) I've usually got someone-or-another's qualification drill in my range bag, to challenge myself with. (You can find a list of such things here.)
