Reloading for Glock 19L (Long slide)

Hi
My usual 9mm loads (115 gr over 4.4 gr Winchester 231, standard small pistol primer), which works well in all my
other 9mm pistols, doesn't work well with my Glock 17 Long Slide, not the ported version.
Getting stove pipes and failure to pick up the next round when the spent case is ejected (and usually ejected FORWARD as the slide returns to battery).
I'm thinking the load doesn't have the oopmh to push the heavier than normal slide back forcefully enough for proper
ejection and feeding.
Was wondering if anyone had the same experience before I start loading stuff hotter.

Thanks

If this is a new gun, you may want to run two boxes of commercial ammo through it (100 rounds) before changing your load. Needs to have the spring broken in. Otherwise 4.6 grains of W231 should fix your problem.

Do you have another glock 9mm like a 17 or 34 you can try your loads in?
I believe the 17L slide is the same weight as the standard 17 and 34, hence the material removed from the top of the slide.
I use lesser loads than what you have given and they perform with no issues in my stock 17,34,17L.

Is the 17L new or used? Are you using new mags?

You didn't tell us enough about the bullet fmj, hp rn? Here is the Hodgdon web site looks like you might be able to use up to 5.1 grains depending on the bullet.

Thanks guys!
Yes, it is a new Glock 17L and new mags. One those things I haven't touched since sticking it in the back of my safe after getting it.
I will break it in too. Forgot about that. And will slowly amp
up my regular load.

I have a 17L and it sounds like your loads may not be hot enough. Keep in mind its a longer barrel, hence more room for gas to expand. So what might normally be a fine load in a standard length barrel may not have enough pressure in the longer barrel. Failure to pick up the next round, perhaps the slide is not getting back far enough?

RTPZ mentioned what bullet are you using. Looking at the data on Hodgdon's site they show a LRN with starting load at 4.3 gr and a GDHP starting load at 4.7 gr.

Unless you're loading lead it seems your load may be underpowered..

You also mentioned it is a new gun, by chance did you clean all the shipping grease and lube the pistol prior to shooting it?

I don't have a 17L but any load that will run in my 26 will also run in my 19, 17 and 34.
