Hidden gun ad from the 1950's,,,

I almost shed a tear when I saw this old advertisement,,,
I had one of those when I was a kid.

Click here please,,,

I have seen a few rigs for deploying a derringer,,,
Mom and Dad were fine antique dealers in the 60-70's,,,
Thye had one that actually worked somewhat but were afraid to sell it.

Dad was afraid that it was somehow illegal,,,
We didn't have the Internet to research such details.

Does anyone know the truth about the legality of these gadgets in modern times?

Thanks for the vid.

Yancey Derringer (Jock Mahoney ?) had Derringers stashed under his hat, spring loaded up the sleeves, and for back-up, a side kick with a cutdown two barrel smoothbore.

Palladin had a seldom seen Derringer behind his belt buckle.

I seem to remember one in 'Red River' and 'The Searchers' also.

That is a cool bit of history. That dates me by a few years, but playing cowboy with cap guns was great fun.

" legality of these gadgets " if you are referring to the ad, they were cap guns, legal where ever kids played, they were cap guns and not capable of being converted to fire real rounds, they were cast zinc. If you are talking real derringers in such a contraption, well, just as a lark, way back when Maverick was still a new show, I tried to carry a Remington derringer ( broken and non working of course ) in a hat, no way was it possible with out beating your head to a pulp. I do remember reading about a sleeve device, but they seemed to be awkward and unworkable except by Hollywood. As far as carrying a real gun in such a manner, the legality would have been the same as for any concealed weapon in your locale. However the hat trick only works in hockey.

I had a derringer toy guns, not the hat gun. Still a lot of fun to fool my friends.
Also had the Fanner Fifty and a boat load of toy rifles and even machine guns. We played "guns" all the time. And we grew up to be . . . an orthodontist, a college professor, a mechanical engineer . . . yea those toy guns were a bad influence.

I had a gunbelt with cap gun deringer that folded back into the buckle. Don't remember much about it.
Theres a buckle like it made for the little .22 revolvers (NAA?)

I've seen sleeve gun rigs made from the slides used when constructing cabinet drawers. You can buy the slides at Lowes or Home Depot.

If it's the one I had it was from the Have Gun - Will Travel series.

Paladin carried a derringer tucked in the front of his pants,,,
The one I had was a buckle with a swing out derringer,,,
