A 590/590A1 comes in a couple of mag tube lengths.
From what you're saying, probably not, as it sounds as if you have the 8-round tube on a 20" barrel, which many people assume is the only way a Mossberg 590 comes, which isn't true. The linked spring in the OP is for the shorter mag tube. What magazine length is your 590? Is it indeed the 8-round? My personal 590A1 is a 5-rounder with an 18.5" barrel. My work 590A1 is an 8-rounder with a 20" barrel. I'm glad you didn't buy the wrong spring, although Brownell's return policy is fairly easy, it's a pain to package something to send back. http://www.gunsprings.com/1ndex.html Wolff's part no. for the longer mag tube is 17905.

The Wolff 40" universal 12Ga spring is the one to get. Cut it to 29" and shape the ends. Like stated I have them cut and shape for $7 shipped. It will clear up any problems you are having with the stock Mossberg 590 spring. It will last a very long before it needs replacing. Cut it to the same length for all 18.5" & 20" shotguns with full length mag tube extensions.
They are excellent springs because the wire is thin, very strong & the coils are widely spaced, which takes up less space in the tube when compressed than other springs. GC Last edited by MAX100; February 28, 2009 at 04:41 PM. |

Was going to go through you Max, but i don;t have a paypal account. I'm going to look into setting one up though. I'm looking to get some more Wolff springs, especially the ones you've cut and shaped, as well as a few other things. You have any recommendations for replacement shell followers? I want to upgrade mine into a hi-viz type thing. I'd just spraypaint them but I'm afraid of the paint wearing off sooner or later.

You will need the metal open end hollow follower. The Brownells brand or the Vang stainless followers are very good. The solid synthetic followers will lower the tube capacity to 7+1. The Nordic Comp brand metal follower is too long and will also cost you a round.

I just ordered these exact springs for my new Mossy 590 and yes, they will work. The stock spring that came with my 590 is roughly 26" long, so with these Wolff springs, you should have more than enough to work with. Frankly, I think the stock 590 springs are way too short anyway and besides the tapered ends, this short length may just contribute to various feeding issues people have experienced with the 8+1 590s.
For instance, the standard 590 spring I have (for an 8 round tube) isnt much longer than what came with my Benelli (its tube capacity is only 4 rounds). Something seems off somewhere... Personally, I plan on cutting one of these new Wolff springs down to no less than 30" or slightly greater as I prefer to go with a bit longer spring (to avoid any feeding issues) and test mag tube capacity from there. .
