Open For Suggestions

I now own a Browning auto 5 12 gauge, Remington 870 12 gauge, and a Mossberg 500 20 gauge. I have the shotgun bug again, and the only way to get rid of it is...Well you know. So point me in the right direction. Whats the best bang for the buck. Im open for anything and $350 seems to be a good cut off.

Thanks,
Mak

There are few choices left. $350.00 shotguns are going to be either used auto or pumps. It seems like you have those basses pretty well covered unless you want to spend more and start getting into a used O/U and even these are hard to find in good condition for the 350.00 you have to spend. I guess when I have the bug, I start hanging out more at gunshops and see what comes in. Good luck

Mossberg 590A1 if you want another 'serious' shotgun... (then sell the 500).

How about some opinions on the Mossberg made Maverick 88. All articles I have read seem to be positive. It seems they only make them in 12 gauge and limited barrel lengths. Does anyone have any other opinions or info on them?

Thanks,
Mak

I wouldn't- IMO it's less desireable than the 500 you already have. If you don't want to improve on the 500 by trading up to a 590, look at the Winchester/FN police guns.

The Maverick is kinda nice if you want pistol grip/pistol grip stock. They have a different trigger group with a cross bolt safety, which is more convenient than the usual Mossberg safety pistol grip/pistol grip stock. IMO, that would be the only reason to buy a Maverick if you already have a Mossberg 500.

I was kinda thinking about a Maverick with a rifled slug barrel. Thats something a little different than what I have. For that price (around $140) I really can't go wrong. Unless its just a real piece of junk. Its Mossy made, so I hope that speaks for it self.

I own a Maverick 88. It's fine, just lighter than your 500. I like the crossbolt safety on the trigger. Some people don't.

Why not upgrade to the 590 however, instead of "downgrading" to a Maverick?

From what I can gather, The 590 is limited to HD. Only a 20 inch barrel, large mag well. Its really made for when the stuff hits the fan. Its still could be a possibility. But right now I'm a "in the woods" type guy. LOL

Now on the other hand ..The 835 probably has a better set up for what I am looking for.

Well I went to the local gun shop yesterday. I got to handle a new Maverick 88......Lets just say I expected a little more. Its got a good name behind it, So maybe I need to give it a chance. Its just a little clunky. I guess the major differences from the Mossberg 500 are: Cheaper stock and grip, plastic trigger guard along with the saftey being on the bottom. Also the slide seems to be flimsy, I guess the rails arent supported inside the reciever. The price is right and the name is right, but I have to ask...Do you really get what you pay for??
