Garand gas plug w/adjustable jets

I have 'the book' by Walt and Clint but don't remember if this is covered. If I wanted to fire factory .30-06 ammo is it as easy as getting the adjustable plug and screwing it in or is there some level of experienced tinkering required in order to avoid rearranging the op rod?
