1911 Magazine question
For those of you that have a 1911 with a blued finish on it, do you usually buy blued magazines for it to match the gun or do you sometimes get stainless ones. I figure if I got a magazine with a sleeve on it would look the same on the gun, blued or ss. It seems that more magazines are available in stainless with a sleeve than blue. I am referring to 10rd mags btw. My gun has a blued finish

I use Chip McCormick Power Plus Mags which are stainless, but they have a black base pad which matches the gun pretty good.

As you say Greg, the 10 rounders have a black plastic sleeve, so it really doesn't matter. C

I use Wilson Combat mags in all of my 1911's ....blued guns or stainless guns...it doesn't matter to me. As far as I know Wilson only makes mags in stainless.../ I did have some annodized mags or dark colored mags that I got from Les Baer...- but the quality wasn't there ...so I tossed them out a long time ago.
In a gun with a mag well on it ...what the mag is made of ..isn't an appearance issue / you can't see it ...unless you go to some type of extended mag and I've never been a fan of those anyway because it upsets the balance and feel of the gun. |

Like BigJim, all my 1911 mags are stainless Wilson. I just keep buying them. The look good and work as well in my TRP as in my stainless Wilson.

I buy the ones that work and am not concerned with what color they are. Wilson mags are my favorites for my 45ACP and 9mm.

I use Wilson Combat mags. They're all stainless but I wouldn't care what color they were.

I suppose it's nice to have a mag that "matches" the finish of the gun for photo purposes, whether it is the mag body itself or the sleeve/bumper pad. However, I don't buy mags based on finish. I usually opt for a blued finish if they come that way and are less expensive; no reason not to save a few bucks. That's just me.

When I buy new Wilson mags I buy the black oxide stainless ones because they have the steel low profile base pad. Used or gun show deals who cares?
If I for some reason travel with a mag of FMJ I put them in one of the non oxide mags to separate if from my regular backup mag |

It makes no difference to me as long as they function correctly. To me, mags are simply a functional part of the gun.

I prefer stainless, they come out easier from both the gun and the mag holder

I bought blued ones. I didn't really think about that part, they just happened to be blued with the rest of the features and price I was looking for.

All of McCormick's "blued" mags are actually stainless. Unless they have changed in recent years they don't make a blued carbon steel mag. The most important thing to remember about magazines is to buy extra springs (Wolff or ISMI) and change them when they start to get weak. If you start having feed problems on the last couple of rounds it's time for a new spring. (usually 3,000 rounds on average)

I bought factory mags from Sig Sauer. I imagine they're the same mag as someone else's, but I'm new enough to handguns not to know whose is whose, and I wanted to make sure all my magazines were the same design, builder and so on.

Magazines are not clothes so I don't care one bit what color they are as long as they work.
