maps

hi,
does someone know where to get maps for public hunting places in CA,
It's hard to be a hunter in USA to much law, no tresspasing, etc.
If you don't have $$$$$ only thing to do is go shoot clay targets.
thanks for any info.

From what I've read via the internet... CA and a number of other

wester States are actually pretty good about having places for 'public' hunting. I'd contact the Dept. of Natural Resources or who ever is in charge of hunting rules and licenses in each state and I'd bet you a dozen donuts they have all kinds of maps as well as rules....

Hope you get out in the woods soon.... need to quit killing those poor defenseless skeet.

Many stores which sell engineering supplies--drafting equipment and paper, transits and levels--have the USGS 7-1/2 minute quadrangles. Public lands are often outlined on these maps.

Any BLM or USFS place carries maps.

I found the FS maps are best if you are going to a National Forest or National Grass land, if you want to orient them for GPS but the BLM maps work better if you want to covert them to the Military grid system.

I usually carry one of each, but I'm a map-compass-gps junkie

The best maps are available through the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) including topographic maps.

Go to the state DNR website and download the WMA maps, then overlay them on google earth to pinpoint a few areas to hunt. Then spend a lot of time in the woods to find where you want to hunt.
