Yes, you can get a $50 gift card for it at any police buy back event. There is a saying "Any Gun Is Better Than No Gun" but the Jimenez is one of the exceptions IMO.

Opinions vary, but the metallurgy and construction leave a great deal to be desired. Jimenez Arms traces its lineage back through the tragic and winding history of Raven, Bryco, then Jennings. The common pattern involves spectacular and often dangerous failures (two of which I've witnessed), and constant small malfunctions and defects.
In fact, the firearms cannot pass California's safety tests, so production was moved to Nevada a few years back. I'd stronly suggest saving up for a more reliable product.

Be prepared to potentially lose a finger or worse when shooting.

Good gravy do not even consider it. Send me the money in the mail and you will be better off than if you bought a Jiminez.

If you think the whole Bryco, Jennings, Jimenez thing is entertaining, and worthy of obtaining nice collector grade samples as a representative slice of firearms history... go ahead and buy one.
If on the other hand you actually intend to shoot it... that would not be wise. C

Raven and Jennings.......
I don't know anything about the Jiminez guns, but I did own a Jennings 380 auto that came with two mags. One only jammed about 60% of the time, and the other jammed 99.9% of the time. I sold it.
I have owned two Raven MP.25's. I cannot say anything bad about them because neither one of them ever had a malfunction while in my possession. I did polish the feed ramp where there was a little seam and they fed great. Maybe I was just lucky, but they always went bang and I always keep my weapons very clean inside. GT |

It will likely go *bang* at least once if that's what you're after, but in my opinion you would be better off spending your hard-earned money on a product that is more well-produced.
Granted, there is a chance, slim, but a chance that you will get one that will just shine and perform phenomenal - any number of members on this forum can attest to owning or having owned a gun that was supposed to be a complete POS but was a great performer. It has happened, and it could happen to you - but there is a reason that I don't frequent casinos, I never gamble

I just heard about them and wanted to see what anybody else knew about them, just out of curiosity.
Thank you for all the replies. |

Please, nobody ask "what is your life worth" that is totally offensive in this context.

Handled one at a gun show. Felt very cheaply made, pot metal quality steel and wisely researched them before buying. The company changes it's name to avoid lawsuits when they blow up. If the internet rumors are true, they will go off on there own from time to time Google search is your friend.

The slide is made of a zinc alloy sometimes referred to as "pot metal" or Zamack. This material has many uses, but in my opinion, is not formulated to withstand the stress placed on a gun slide and has proven to fail in the short term.

The Raven was one cheap gun that actually did work, out of the ones I've seen. of course, 25ACP isn't much of a caliber to bet your life on. I had a Jennings J-22 years ago, and it worked OK. Nothing sterling, just OK...
We had a Jennings 9mm on the rental range I worked, and it lasted less than a week. I would counsel on saving for a High Point as the lowest standard, perhaps looking for something used in a good name. Good luck! |

I wonder how one would hold up in the torture tests those guys put a Hi-Point through. I'm sure everybody has seen all of them. Very impressive as to the ruggedness of Hi-Point. By the many reports of the ka-booms of the predecessors of Jimineaz I'm thinking it wouldn't do so well.

The Hi-Point is a gun I could live with if necessary or let a friend buy in good conscience if on a tight budget. It's within a few dollars of the Jimenz. There are some others out there as well plus some used guns near the same price point.

I'd pick one up only as a "collector" piece. I've always loved all those little cheap junk guns. There's just something about them. And at 50-100 bucks a piece I guess it's one of the more affordable forms of gun collecting.
I would of course never shoot the thing, even recreationaly. I might still need my fingers for another 60 or 70 years. |
