Buckshot: Larger and Smaller Than You Think

Buckshot Pellet Size & Weight Chart

Tri-Ball, .600" 315 grains hard cast lead
(Dixie Slugs Brand)

Swaged Lead Buckshot: Nominal* size & weight.

No. 000 Buck, .350" 65 Gr.
No. 00 Buck, .330" 54 Gr.
No. 0 Buck, .320" 48 Gr.
No. 1 Buck, .300" 40 Gr.
No. 2 Buck, .270" 29 Gr.
No. 3 Buck, .250" 23 Gr.
No. 4 Buck, .240" 20 Gr.

* Most factory loaded buckshot run smaller than chart size.
(00B .325" Federal & 1B .295" Winchester)

Not that it's real important, but true 000 Buckshot is .360", about 70 grains.

Also, some consider the Letter (larger than BBB) sizes to be Buckshot.

T - .20" - 12 Grains
TT - .21" - 14 Grains
F - .22" - 16 Grains
FF - 18 Grains.

So, what is Buckshot? Definitions can be pretty loose.

You are right!

The nominal size for OOO is indeed .36" @70 grains per pellet.

However, the last time I checked, Federal Premium OOOB pellets actually measured .345"

The buckshot in the Dixie Tri-Ball rounds actually measure .60"
