Cheapest sounds so, well, cheap. Stick with known makers. Probably one of the lest expensive, but reliable polymer pistols is the Ruger SR 9/SR40 series.
S&W has an economy line (forget the name) that, from what I hear as I have never shot one, is not bad either. |

Dig deep, spend for reliability
"Cheap" is fine if you are starting the fight, but to save life, in an emergency, to end the fight when the fight comes to you, unexpectedly, get what's reliable and hard hitting.
In a semi-auto, you may need to pay more for reliability and durability from a well reputable maker: S&W Sigma Taurus (45 ACP) 1911 Ruger 345 Sig 220 new $1000.....What pistol has a better reliability reputation?

The cheapest polymer handgun that I would be willing to buy is a Kel-Tec P32.
I'd prefer a Kel-Tec PF-9 because of the harder-hitting cartridge, however. Quote:
I'll add a caveat. Two early Sigma models, the SW9M and SW380, are the closest thing to outright junk that S&W has sold during the last century. (S&W has realized this themselves; if you send one in for service, they reportedly destroy it and send you a gift certificate. ) The new Sigmas are fine, though, and some big-box discount sporting goods stores regularly put them on sale for <$300.

Absolute Cheapest? Nerf
(sorry, just could NOT resist) Assuming a self defense caliber, assuming new, and assuming semi-auto: The cheapest polymer gun is probably going to be a Hi-Point. The cheapest polymer gun worth considering would probably be either a Bersa or a Taurus, in that order of preference. That will get you into a Thunder PB9cc or a 709 Slim for less than $400. This isn't to say there aren't others, but those are what come to mind to me. *Edit* carguychris's suggestion to look at Kel-Tec is also good.

HiPoint may be one of the least expensive polymer handguns available. they come with a lifetime guarantee.......and they work!
i have one of thier 9mm compacts (not to compct lol) and it works perfectly every time! they have 380's and 45's and maybe 40 cal also, pistols and a carbine.

I would say Hi Point........ But please don't waste your money. Buy a S&W M&P, XD/XDm, Ruger SR 9/40, or a Glock IMO. I feel you get the most "bang for your buck" with these polymer handguns I listed. The XDm is higher in price, but from what I hear they are pretty bad to the bone.
You should also checkout this video from SHOT show 2012 introducing the new XDs: A single stack XDs .45 Autohttp://http://m.youtube.com/index?de...?v=P4p1HbwKGzw

the Kel-Tec guns don't have a polymer frame. They have aluminum frames with a polymer cover.

Now, why are you interested in cheap? There's a sweet spot, or sweet range, where cheap is also good and functional. Below that sweet spot, you compromise something.

However, the lowest priced, reliable guns I'd go with would be either a Ruger P95 or a S&W Sigma. Both are very good guns and won't break the bank.

You mean the lowest price that is acceptable to the "experts", or one that is accurate, reliable, nearly indestructible, made in the United States, and has a no questions asked lifetime warranty for whoever owns the gun, and a customer service that is second to none?
OK, so it is thought to be ugly, large for caliber, roughly finished, has a trigger that is far from the greatest, and made of material that again is unacceptable to many. But it works! To find out just put Hi-Point in the search tool above, click go, get some popcorn, and start reading!

What is the cheapest polymer handgun?
Since you didn't specify caliber, I'd say a Wal-Mart pellet gun! Not kidding! They sell for less than $30.00! If you want a specific caliber and something that gives you the best value for your dollar, Thats a different question!

I have to throw in a vote for the sigma.
The older ones were cheap, the new ones are "inexpensive"! |

The cheapest polymer gun I would ever consider would be the S&W Sigma, and for a few dollars more I would really prefer the S&W SD9 series for the improved ergonomics, trigger, and sights.

For cheapest reliable centerfire, I would say hipoint. Don't plan to CCW it or let anyone see it at all.
There are a lot more expensive guns that are a whole lot less reliable. You can buy some rimfires and very unreliable mouseguns a little cheaper. |
