43 Mauser

I am currently in the possession of two Mauser rifles, both owned by my great grandfather, presumably brought from Austria when he immigrated to Canada.One is a single shot bolt action carbine, barrel lenght of about 18 or 19 inches. I can make out two stampings, "1879" and "Model 1871".
The other rifle is a bolt action repeater, actually feeding from a tube magazine under the 30 inch barrel. This piece weighs about 10 pounds, and is stamped "M7/84". Neither rifle has any designation for caliber, but we also have a single box of very old ammuniton that fits both guns and actually still fires. It is advertised as "43 (or 11mm) Mauser". On the back of the box it says it fires a 385 grain bullet at 1360 FPS.
Any information you could provide regarding these two guns would be much appreciated.

The .43 Mauser [11.15x60R] was made for the German military single shot M71 and later used in the tubular magazine repeater M71/84.It was loaded here by Remington and Winchester...A rimless, smokeless version was introduced about 1920 at much higher velocity and recently the german gunmaker Blaser introduced another version.Both these approach the 450 Marlin in performance. Popular in europe for boar and red deer.
