230 was an early predecessor of 231, and hasn't been manufactured since at least the 1970s.
230 was not the same as 231, and reloading data is not interchangeable. It was, according to many, a lot closer in performance to Bullseye. 231 is slower than that. I don't know much about 230, but I do know it's general characteristics were quite different from 231. I've not seen loading data for it in any post 1985 or so manuals that I've used.

I increased the load to 7.0gn of HP38 and had no problems in my brand new Ruger.

Good to hear it. I'll bet they work real well in the Judge too. Those are still very mild loads. I shoot a similar load in my Colt clone which I try to keep the power level down for. You might want to try it at 7.5 gr, which is still pretty mild.

As a matter of fact, this past weekend I took some 7.0 and some 7.5 loads to the range and found that I was getting consistently better groupings with the 7.5.

And I just reloaded some reduced rifle loads last night using magnum primers and NASA doesn't use a single match to launch the space shuttle.
Also a revolver has a "cylinder gap" which also effects "combustion" and "pressure". Houston, we no longer have a problem. "Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it" National Rifleman Magazine 1974 |
