Can someone point me to the proper steps for selling a rifle in CT?

You only need the state in your thread title when you are actually selling or buying something. Since your question is neither, I've moved this to General Discussion from the Gun Show forum.

Same as any state, if you're using an FFL. Either you advertise, find a buyer, then meet him at your FFL to do the transfer (and who pays the transfer fee or how it's apportioned is part of the price negotiation) ... or you take the gun to your FFL and put it on consignment.

Federal law doesn't require an ffl be involved in a ftf transaction if both residents live within the same state. If you were to sell it to someone outside the state you live in you would have to ship it to an ffl dealer in the purchasers state and then he would fill out the paperwork just as if he were buying it from that dealer. Some dealers won't accept shipments from individuals, only from other dealers but that is just about as simple. You go to a dealer in your state with a copy of the dealers license that you are shipping to in the buyers state and your dealer will fill out the transfer and then you just ship it to the buyers dealer.

But the question specified using an FFL and within Connecticut.

Like was mentioned.

1. Find an FFL to do the transfer and his cost
2. Find a buyer and decide who pays what for the service.
3. Meet the buyer at your FFL to complete the sale.

It's simple and straight forward. Since using an FFL is not mandatory, expect the buyer to refuse to pay for the cost of the service. You may also lose a sale if the buyer does not wish to go thru an FFL for whatever reason. If it's a rifle in demand and is priced fairly you should have no problem finding a buyer who has no issues with using an FFL.

Clarification regarding Connecticut:

Face-to-face sales ARE allowed in Connecticut. However, for handguns the seller must still contact the State Police and obtain an authorization before making the transfer. This is not required for rifles and shotguns.

The ones I am thinking on selling are an AR-15 sport, Ruger SR1911 and probably a MKIII 22/45.
