Best .22LR bang for buck

I currently shoot a CZ 75D PCR and absolutely love it, but with rising costs and the scarcity of 9mm ammo I'm interested in picking up a .22 semi auto for the range.

I really like the look of the sig 1911 in .22

What do you guys recommend and why?

A Ruger MK II can drive tacks if you can?

A CZ Kadet Kit .22LR conversion will fit on your PCR. I use mine on both my 75B, and PCR and it works great on both. Yes, they have become pricey, around $300, but worth it.

If you prefer a dedicated .22, try to find a used Ruger MK II or MK II era 22/45. If you must get a MK III, remove the LCI, and the mag disconnect. The Rugers are excellent .22's and can be upgraded to whatever level you want.

For the range/plinking, hard to beat a Mark II. I've been looking at the polymer framed 22/45 as a second, lighter gun.
The Buckmarks are very popular too, but kind of heavy for my tastes.

Would the sig 1911 be a good .22?

I'll look into the ruger, they look more affordable too.

I love my Ruger 22/45. May not be the prettiest gun to look at, but it sure is a shooter. Not only that but it will far outlast the pot metal guns like the Walther P22, the Ruger SR22, and the Sig Mosquito.

I have 4 Ruger Mark series. They are great guns. If you dont want to be like everybody else with a Ruger Mark pistol, the Bersa Thunder 22, Beretta Neos, and Ruger SR22P are all excellent choices in the low $300 range.

The Ruger SR22P is not a pot metal gun like the Walther P22. It has a polymer frame and an Aerospace Aluminum Alloy slide. That is certainly not pot metal.

i absolutely love my Ruger SR22 pistol. It works flawlessly with any type of ammo, and a blast to shoot. I have put over 10,000 rounds through mine and still works perfect! Highly recommend

Well, if you're buying a .22 because 9mm ammo is scarce, good luck with that. Where I'm at .22lr is at least as difficult to come by as 9mm.

I like the Ruger 22/45, by the way.

I mainly want to be able to go to the range more often and the ammo is much more affordable.

Definitely looking into the mark iii

My Sr 22 has ran flawlessly with over 2000 rounds through it, and I'm suprized at the accuracy for such a short barrel. It has a fixed barrel which gives it a solid feel, and it is fun to shoot.

Have fun finding .22LR ammo. You may want to start loading 9MM for your PCR.

I love my MkIII. Its more accurate than I am, trigger is nice....
Teardown and reassembly is a major PITA, especially the first 2 times.
Its a great gun.

I recently started a thread similar to this one. Here's what I learned:

Ruger standard auto, MK II, or MK III, including the 22/45s of each generations are all very good choices.

The Beretta Neos is also very underrated.

Beretta Neos is a funky looking pistol, but they perform with excellence! Match grade accuracy, smooth shooting, ergonomic, and never a jam!

If you want a pistol tha can grow with you as our shooting skills improve, get the Ruger. Even if you want to keep it a plinker/practice gun, get the Ruger. Another option is the Browning Buckmark if you can find one.

People seem to like the NEOS which is a strange looking pistol, but usually a bit less expensive than the Ruger and Buckmark.

I noticed you mentioned the Sig 1911-22 3 times. Everybody else suggested something different, although no one said your choice was a bad one. I have no dog in this fight. I do own a few .22, but I don't own a MK or a 1911-22. If the 1911 floats your boat and it is what you want, chances are you will enjoy owning it. I think the most important aspect to buying guns is buying what you want/like. There is a reason why guns come in so many flavors. You may want to look at some other 1911 style .22's. Colt makes one and GSG does too. The GSG is the same as the SIG. I think the Colt is imported by Umarex and might be made by Walther. I can't remember what the difference is between the Sig/GSG & Colt/Umanex/Walther but you can probably find that info w/a quick web search. Buy what makes you happy, it's your money.

The Sig and GSG 1911-22 are the same gun. Either one is a good choice. These are economical, accurate, have a good trigger and pretty good sights. I've been very pleased with mine.

Another high quality yet reasonably priced .22lr is the Beretta NEOS. Not a target gun, but accurate enough and reliable. A good pistol with which to train young people due to it's size and shape.

Ruger (the MK doesn't really matter), Browning, S&W 22A, Beretta Neos.....

Everything else.

There is a reason those four have risen to the top among "popular priced" 22 semi-autos. You can pay more and get "better" guns, but when people talk about "getting a 22" they don't generally mean something like a Smith & Wesson Model 41.

I have to recommend the Browning Buckmark. The one I have is a real tack driver. The trigger is Awsome out of the box and even better when you do the "Heggis Flip"(takes about 5 min. and doesn't cost a penny) I tried out it and the Ruger Mark II and decided the Buckmark is for me. I've had it a little less than a year but have shot thousands of rounds through it already. My brother liked it so much he went out and bought one just like it.
