WOOHOO That was more fun than a barrel of monkeys

Yes Sir I'm hooked now. I took the Old Army out this morning. I shot 30 balls out of it with pyrodex pellets and Rem #11 caps. I had to stop because she was getting really dirty. But this thing is super accurate. I guess thats the good thing about buying a used gun someone else has already sighted it in . But Yeah buddy I love it. I like all the character they have, the smoke, the BIG FIREBALL out the muzzle, the smut, all of it!!

That's EXACTLY what I thought following my first shoot session. Mine had(have) to be sighted in but hold good groups for sure.

The only negative is that I'm finding it difficult to get much interested in the rest of my amory anymore.

Oh heck yeah. Every time I get home from shooting my Remmy I start thinking about how soon I can go do it again!

Did you have any problem with ignition of the pellets? Did you crush them when seating the ball or just seat the balls on top of the Pyro pellet without cracking it?

No they all lit right off no sweat, and yeah i crushed them, it was on accident for the first ball, but for the next 5 I figured what the heck. It was hard for me to feel when the ball just touched the pellet. But yeah the ball was well below the mouth of the cylinder. But they all went bang and into an 8" splatter target at 25 yards.

And no one treats you like a potential criminal when buying them, either.

Deer...
Was that your first time with blackpowder?

I also remember firing my stainless ROA for the first time. I'm gonna say it was at 15 yards and I got one hole. I just had this big stupid grin and thought: "no way -- I musta been off paper with some shots," then "that was a fluke -- I'll never be able to do THAT again" and finally "now I've worn it out or something and I'll be disappointed from now on."

LOL Uh-uh!

Yes Sir, That was the first time I pulled the trigger on a black powder anything. Its definately what I've been missing I love it! I can't wait till next week to actually spend some time playing with accuracy and shooting the '58 for the first time.

With the ROA and the Remington how much powder with a wad will get the ball just right in the cylinder without filler?

Deerslayer,
My Remingtons do just great with 30grs (vol) FFFg with a 1/8" lube wad and a thin bead of grease around the ball from an irrigation syringe.

Don't own nor likely ever will have a ROA but I can imagine they are fun too.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who was having way too much fun with a smokepole, I got bit by the bug with a CVA kentucky pistol, last fall.

Cool video, Lee. Never thought about making my own caps. But seeing that guy wield that razor blade made me cringe, so for now I think I'll still be buying mine.

I couldn't see what he filled the cap cups with as a primer component.
