Glock 17 or beretta m9? What's your choice and why?

Wow, tough choice both are great guns. Obviously there are some noticeable differences, so it might boil down to which style of gun you are most comfortable with. I guess a slight concern for me might be weight when considering them for carry. Anyway, I voted G17, but it’s really a tossup for me.

Glock 17.

These are both great range, duty, or home defense weapons. The G17's weight makes it a little more daily carry friendly, and it brings two extra rounds to the party.

Very close contest.

Objectively, the Glock is a more durable design; the locking block on the Beretta is prone to breakage whereas the more common ejection port lockup of the Glock is more durable. Also, the Glock has a smaller grip yet still has two more rounds in the magazine. The Glock has a rail for flashlights/lasers. The Glock is also lighter because of its polymer frame.

Subjectively, I don't like the direction of the Beretta's safety or the fact that it gets in the way of grasping the slide. I also don't like the DA/SA trigger for self-defense use. But the Beretta has a smother feel with a better fit and finish. It also shoots very well.

I have heard of more beretta issues than glocks.

I also have heard nothing but rave reviews for glocks(for the most part)

Tossup for me too so I abstained

I own and enjoy both for their differences. Both great pistols.

Yeah it can be a bit annoying. I'd probably prefer a 1911-style but the 92 safety (other than placement) has its plusses.

Seconded. Buy a P226 in 40/357 and 9mm conversion parts. 3-in-one and hella performance.

I like glocks, but I picked the Beretta because - in my opinion - it's more of a classic.

Glock 17. Just because I've had one for 20+ years and it still functions flawlessly. However, I'm only accurate with it to about 30 feet.

Like the Beretta over the Glock re ergos, but both shot 3-inch groups, and the Beretta jammed on hot ammo (despite upgrading to heavier Wolf springs).

Got a Sig P239, yah its lower capacity (10+1 extended mag), awkward ergos ... but it shoots sub 1-inch groups. Accuracy rules.

Shoot'em first, then choose the one that's the most accurate for you.

Glock 17.

Even with having less than stellar ergonomics, I still find the Glock to be more comfortable than the Beretta.

I feel the Beretta is over-engineered and heavier than required.

Neither have good triggers but I really don't like DA/SA triggers.
(Same thing goes for decockers.)

Both are very reliable but IMHO the Glock platform is a bit more especially when being used in dirty conditions.

Lastly, cost of the Beretta is higher and for the money there are better options like the Sig 226.

On the reliability front, the Beretta isn't bad though, that open top slide is effective in promoting good ejection. So all in all, if those were my only two choices, I'd rather have a Glock 17.

I like both, but depends on use.

Glock for all around use - like many said: simple, light, durable.

But I prefer the Baretta platform for range duty. It is heavier and has a good feel to it, but out in the field it is just too big.

So, in the end the newer technology and robust nature of a Glock always wins - which is my vote.

I chose the M9. I'm already a 1911 guy, and wouldn't give those nasty Glocks the time of day

Beyond that, I was already contemplating a 92FS for cheaper range practice.

M9a1 or 92A1 if you need a rail.

Factory 17 rounders for the 92A1 fit all 92 series pistols by using a different follower design. Mec-Gar mags can be bought to give you flush fit 18 rounders.

The 92 is quite possibly the most sorted out platform for suppressors on the market. The lockup not tilting means no recoil impulse boosting trickery is required.

A $2.50 "D" mainspring takes five minutes to swap in and gives a much nicer first trigger pull.

Best of all, no hump, none of those annoying Glock finger bumpers, and no unrelieved area between the bottom of the trigger guard and the front strap.

I see this a lot on this forum. I've got no problem with people preferring a different trigger system than me. But some of the comments that come with it make me scratch my head.

How is a DA/SA pistol bad for self-defense? What use it is good for then?

I can understand not liking DA/SA, that's your choice. What is bad about a decocker?

The pull doesn't change on you randomly, so it is consistent. The first pull, starting in DA, is always heavier than the second. I think you mean you want every pull to be the same weight.
