CZ27 info

Anyone have info on a CZ27, SN 528XX? Build date, original organization issued? It has the BOHIMISCHE stamp on the top of the slide, and the WafA proof mark on the top of the slide and right side of the frame.

thanks

Bohemische Waffenfabrik was the German name for CZ in Czechoslovkia, so the gun was made in 1941-42-43, before they went to the "fnh" code. The serial number range was from 21500 to 261000, so yours was probably made in 1941. A total of 476,000 were made up to 1945, making it one of the most common German-used pistols, and one of the most common of the WWII bringbacks. Some reportedly went to the German navy (marked with an "eagle K" for Kriegsmarine) but they were used all over, by police and the SS, as well as by the Army. The Germans called it the P.27t ("t" is the first letter of Czechoslovakia in German).

The gun was originally designed as a 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP) caliber turning-barrel locked-breech pistol, the CZ-24. The CZ-27 was a simplified blowback version for the 7.65 Browning (.32 ACP). Whether this was done at the direction of the Germans or not, the fact is that 9mm Kurz was not in the German military supply system and 7.65 Browning was.
