The ballistic tip and the solid base coexisted for a couple of years. The ballistic tips were no where close to "double" the price of the solid base.

You are correct, however the operative word is "were". Early boxes of Ballistic Tips were labeled Solid Base Ballistic Tip and came 100 to a box with a modest price increase. By the time the lead tip Solid Base was gone and the Ballistic Tips packaged in 50 boxes the price had increased dramatically.

Because a box of 100 would cost too much.

The partition is a quality bullet IMO, I have a partial box of 100 count .338 250 grain Partition left, the price tag states 44.95 I guess I have had them a while seeing how you can't even touch a box of 50 for that price anymore.

Nosler 5th ed. Reloading manual lists "Solid Base Ballistic Tip" ...... published in 2002.

Safari ammo comes in boxes of 20, 10, 8, 6, and I have seen some stufff that was $90 for 4. I dont feel too bad about Nosler putting 50 component bullets in a box.

Best I could find was Nosler/Winchester Combined Technology 7mm 140gr Ballistic Silvertips 100rd box for 12.97 and Nosler 7mm150gr Ballistic Tips for 11.97 per 100. bought 6 of each.

Most mgfs have always boxed high dollar premium hunting bullets in smaller quantities. The idea is you're not going to be shooting a lot of them. Just enough to get you load dialed in.

Every look at factory premium hunting ammo, or self defense loads on the shelf? Pistol rounds are usually boxed in 25s, and rifle rounds boxed in 10s.

I also use shooterspro, as Steve4102 and jwrowland77 do, but what I've noticed is, they get you on shipping a little bit, but the price per 50 is a good deal.

FWIW. Marketing. Its all about marketing and competition. Isn't it reasonable to think if Nosler could sell 25 bullets in a box for the same amount of money as 50. I suspect they would do it without hesitation. The old business adage apply's. "What ever the market will bare."_ which meaning is:

"the highest price you can sell your goods at in the market you are in". You need to know what your competition is selling their products at in order to get a guideline.

IMHO: Being in the bullet business. Nosler has a lot of competition setting guidelines they have to follow. And that's good for us consumers that they do.
