Gas cutting question from a dummy
I've heard about the top strap on the .357max being gas cut and in my speer manual, under the .45AR, loads are less than 15k to reduce gas cutting they say. I shoot .45acp in my blackhawk and loads are listed not exceeding 21k, with in .1th grain of 231 between the two different cartridges. Is this gas cutting of real significance cause I do let'er RIP with the .45colt loads and they mention nothing of this gas cutting in its listings.

Take a look at your topstrap and forcing cone...
is it pitted or marred? If it is...you have your answer... |

The ones I've seen cut into the topstrap a ways and then it seams to stop causing anymore cutting, most guys I know that have the max don't worry about it.

Interesting. There are quite a few published .357 magnum loads that top at 42,500 pressure. If you runnin your Max significantly under that, should be no worry.
