Springfield 16 gauge
I'd like to find out when my Springfield, 16 gauge, side by side shotgun with external hammers was made. Here is what it says on the side:
Springfield Manufactured By J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee, Mass U.S.A. Pat. Feb. 10 - 1914 Serial no. on the inside is 82015 |

I have a 16 ga. Springfield-Stevens sxs hammer gun like yours with the same information stamped on the frame. I've been told that prior to 1930 it was sold as the Riverside No. 215. It was listed as a Springfield-Stevens No. 215 in the 1930 Stevens catalog. It was not listed in their 1933 catalog, suggesting that it was likely made between 1930 and 1932.
Please let me now if you ever want to sell yours. A previous owner cut the barrels off to 20" on mine and I'd like to have another one with standard barrels. |
