Could I get the year on this 4506-1 # MJF1455?
There's no listing in the SCSW for the MJF prefix. S&W made so many different special runs with out of sequence serial numbers that only they can track them all.
That said, 4506's were made from 1988 to 1999 with the -1's coming in around 92.

S&W's customer service would be able to give you the DOB over the phone for free.

Jim.

The only number that counts is the one on the bottom of the grip frame, which is the serial number of record for virtually all S&W revolvers. The other numbers are just used in the manufacturing process to keep track of parts. In the case of your Mod. 10-10, the BDR prefix corresponds to a manufacturing year of 1989.

(1989 = "OLD .38 spc . . ."?? Man, I'm feeling REALLY old now)

Thank you for your service, sir.

I don't know of any way to find out how and by whom the gun has been used, other than talking to those who might know. If you want to spend $50 you can get a letter from Roy Jinks, S&W Historian, that will provide a bit more information on the gun, including which dealer or distributor the gun was initially shipped to, and the exact date. The so-called "factory letter" is typically only done for guns with some collector value, but if you want to spend the money S&W will be happy to tell you what they can.

According to SCSW, all these guns were commissioned by Lew Horton and were produced in September of 2000. The serial number is NSC0160 (the example that they reviewed for the book was NSC0170), I'm not sure what the dashes and #182 refer to.

Newer than 2004, which is where the SN numbering in latest edition of the book ends, at around "CH-". You can call S&W Customer Service and they will give you the year over the phone.

SW 32 Long Date

Can you tell me the mfg. date of my SW 32Long, serial number 6299XX? It is a nice piece with a little rust on the barrel, no pitting.

Bluing is probably about 80 to 90 %. Round grips.

Thanks for any info.

Well, as close as I can get is serial number 640XXX was in 1956 and 657XXX was in 1957. So yours would likely be 1955.

Help with my serial number

First time to post here, hope it won't be the last. I'm just getting into pistols/revolvers and have picked myself up a nice Smith and Wesson model 64 from a gun show, but not sure much about it.

The serial number is CJF 5XXX and it had 64-8 as well.

Any info on this gun would be appreciated.

CJF is after CHxxxxx (2004), which is the lastest date the SCSW covers.
S&W customer service will give you the date over the phone for free.

How about 440xxx. would like to know year and model if possible. It was my grandfather's gun. Also looking for a 6" barrel for it if anybody knows where to get one. Had gunsmith look at it and said it needs new barrel.
