What's the real story in switching calibers on Savage rifles?

I got some good answers here and, have done some research on what's involved in switching barrels on my .270wssm model 116 Savage rifle. It appears that changing barrels is pretty straightforward. The tools and barrel are a little costly though.

Questions;

Will the .243wssm and .300wssm both fit my detachable box magazine and my bolt face?

Is there any round larger than .308 that will fit my .270wssm magazine or bolt stroke without modifications? Could I get-by with purchasing the magazine only for a larger round?

You might want to take a peek at: savageshooters.com. Seems like folks there are doing something like you describe all the time...and loving it!
