Low recoil 12 gauge for HD & hunting
Hey all, I'm 5 days away from buying a shotgun (awaiting my "economic stimulis $$"). Till then I have a question to ask.
What is the lowest recoiling round for 12 gauges that will cycle properly in a Mossberg 500. I have no problems with recoil, but my wife and kids do. Since I would like to involve the whole family I need some help on this subject. Thanks for the help.

Since a Mossberg 500 is a pump, cycling is not an issue like low-recoil loads in an autoloader would be, so I guess I do not understand your question?...If you're talking about recoil in that gun for your wife and kids, I would go with a light target load....BUT, if the stock is too long for them, the slightest recoil will still "kick" them in the cheek and make it unpleasant.....gun fit is important!

Looks like my thoughts came out wrong.
I am just looking for information on low recoil loads for a 12. I found some super light loads for a 20ga, so I might go there for the wife and kids. Does anyone have specific factory loads that are really light? Thanks

Remington has good managed recoil slug available. Theres others but the Remington is pretty good and has enough power for deer hunting also.

I just picked up some Winchester AA "Low Recoil, Low Noise Light Target Load" at WalMart, sold right next to the regular AA boxes. The label claims 50% less recoil/noise than regular shells (and, therefore, not recommended for autos).
I'm rained in today, will probably give them a shot Saturday.

as mentioned, any light target load will work from that aspect; but if the gun is too long in the stock, for your wife and kids, it won't be pleasant for them, no ,matter how light the load...it IS possible to shoot with a stock that is somewhat short...it is NOT pleasant if the stock is too long......

Beretta
I think Beretta Xtrema2 is your best bet since its designed for low recoil. You can hunt and Dh with it.

Winchester, Federal, Remington, Hornady and Speer all offer reduced recoil buckshot suited to your needs. They recoil the same as those wimpy trap/skeet loads, and offer better penetration in badguys. Everyone in the family can easily shoot reduced recoil buckshot.

Light recoil HD loads are fine in the 500. For general shooting and getting the family going, I would buy the light loads in bulk at walmart...
I use a 20ga. Fine knock down and less brutal recoil. Brent |
