I'll load most any pistol brass once, it suits my purposes these days.

Hog Buster, what fed brass I have, I'll keep an eye on. Thank you guys for letting me know. As mentioned, I do not have a lot of it in rifle and none in pistol. But, I know what to look for. Again, thanks.

I have always found Federal brass to be softer than Rem or Win brass.
I am another one that tosses federal brass back on the ground if I find it at the range.

After looking at your pics, OP, it seems to me the folks that suggested separate seating and crimping ops nailed it but I'd measure cases to cull out the long ones as well.

"Your problem is die adjustment. Not Federal brass."
CORRECT. You're crunching the longer cases and that happens with any brand. Either trim the cases or develop a feel for what you're doing. I suppose some 99.99% of our handgun loads are fired at paper targets or tin cans, ect; hardly seems useful to load to the ragged edge of pressure for that. Anyone expanding primer pockets with ANY cases is loading excessively hot. Fed cases are a tad softer than most others, made that way so they will last longer but they need moderate charges for that to help. Choose your cases for the task same as you select anything else, not for what other people think of it, especially if their needs are different from yours. |
