Best Shells For 40+ Yards?

Being A C.Q.B Guy For Years With My Mossy 500,I Have No Clue What The Best Load/Shell Would Be For Reaching Out To 40+ Yards? Would Like To Make My New Beretta 1201FP3 Riot An Accurate Distance Weapon! Have A Speedfeed IVS Pistol Grip Stock En Route And Will Be Deciding On What Scope In The Coming Weeks.

I Have Read Ballistic Reports For Different Shell Manuf. And Spread Patterning Info Which Confused The Hell Out Of Me!

Anyone? Anyone?

And No I Dont Want A Rifle!

Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated!

Use 00 buckshot and play with the chokes if the 1201 has interchangeable chokes .You may be surprized at the patterns you can get..If you don't have interchangeable chokes , about the tightest pattern will be Hornady 00 TAP shells.

Slugs. I wonder how Dead Coyote brand shells would work out in less populated areas where you can afford to have a few pellets miss the target?

I've shot Wally World's cheapest slug at about 50 yards accurate to a 6" circle/center mass, on a man sized stump. I was using a Mossberg 500, Knoxx CopStock equipped, 18 1/2" and shooting one handed. I'm sure I could have done a lot better if I had a fully stocked/sighted weapon and better quality slugs. I don't think 50 yards is an issue. You should be thinking 100 yards. That's about the effective limit for slugs in a smooth bore barrel. If you put a rifled barrel on the Mossberg, there are guys that target shoot them at 200 yards. Slugs are probably effective to about 125 yards.
