Back Pocket Carry
I just realized how well my new Sig P238 fits in the back pocket of my jeans. Anyone just back pocket carry or is it a bad idea?

With a proper pocket holster, its just as safe as anywhere else. I have carried a Ruger LCP in my back pocket a few times with no problem. It just felt a little uncomfortable to me sitting on it.
But I have a friend who always....7 days a week...carries his like that.

I have a gunsmith buddy who carrys a J Frame in the back pocket of his jeans all the time around the shop or property.
I have another buddy who carries a 2-3/4" Speed Six in this manner. It works for them. If you are bumming around in the yard or shop, or going for a walk this method of carry is probably OK. I think I would skip setting on the handgun on hard surfaces, like wooden chairs however. Bob |

I carry my 2nd gun in the back right pocket. Usually a Seecamp .32.
Sometimes its a micro Desert Eagle, other times it's a Walther TPH. My front left pocket gun is either a Kahr PM9 or a Ruger Sp101 depending on how much pocket I've got to work with. I had a Sig 238 and sometimes carried it cocked and locked in the back right pocket. I just sold it the other day because it annoyed me how sometimes the ejector would get out of place and you would have to disassemble the whole gun to put it right. I would have thought Sig would have fixed this about the Colt Mustang but they just made it worse. |

I often BP carry while doing chores around the farm. It's just so handy.

I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like a bad idea. Even with a good pocket holster, I feel like it would be easy to accidentally sit on the mag release.

My preference is belt carry, even for mouse guns. It's become such an ingrained habit to reach to my 3:00 position, that a change in location would be ill-advised.
Every once in awhile, I will go to a cargo pocket (with holster) if I have to. And by have to, I mean it is 90+ degrees outside and there is now way to comfortably wear a concealment garment.

I bought a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster for my Elsie Pea because of the flap option to be used as back pocket carry. Never really cared for it, so I just took the flap off now for front pocket carry. I just didn't like sitting on my pistol. Plus, as it did make the "item" appear to be a wallet, there is another one in the other pocket.

I carry my in my LCP back pocket in an Uncle George Wallet holster ... Works great. I have started carrying my LC9 in my back pocket with a Desantis Superfly ... It fits in some shorts/pants but not most. When I do I always wear my shirt out covering the pocket.
I've done this for several years and never had a problem. Never hit the mag release. |

I found carrying in the back pocket to be a bit more difficult to draw the weapon if your shirt is untucked your off hand can't raise the shirt enough to prevent getting hung up. I suggest spend time practicing your draw form whatever position you choose to carry the weapon with the kind of clothes and the manner you normally dress.

If driving/setting is just about impossible to get out of pocket.

I've done the back pocket carry thing. I figured that I would never beat an armed robber with a fast draw anyway, and my best bet would be to appear to be taking out my wallet. But I stopped for the reasons below.
One, I didn't like sitting on it. Two, I was always worried it was sticking out of my back pocket. Three, I figured the number of situations where my tactics would work was knd of small. |

LCP in a Galco holster in my back pocket from the time I get up, to when I go to bed.
I guess the back pockets on Wranglers are different, cause I never seem to sit on the pistol. I usually also carry a LC9 in a IWB, or a snubbie revolver in a OWB. |

I always carry an LCP in my back pocket. It sits right behind a folded bandana/handkerchief which softens the outline of the holster and helps mask the grip if it peeks over the top of my pocket.
The only downside is I sometimes forget it's there

WHY would you sit on your gun? this is dumb idea. I tried BPC with p238, fail... I sat on the gun thinking I would break it. I tried LCP, worse because its plastic!

If ever there was a gun "made" for the back pocket it would have to be the Keltec P32.

Y'know, pocket carry is VERY DANGEROUS and shouldn't be done according to some people.
