How fast can you shoot your pump shotgun?

I was wondering how fast people can shoot their pump shotguns.

How fast can you shoot through 6 full power shotgun rounds out of your pump shotgun? List how long it takes you and which gun you use.

I am going to the range soon and I am going to take a timmer and video camera.

I never put a timer on it, but the Ithaca 37 12 ga. passed down by my dad will fire by just holding the trigger and pumping the action. I've watched him empty it faster than his hunting partners could empty their Remington autos...not bad.

Note this was just to settle a discussion, not for accuracy.

I can empty target loads in 4 seconds with my remington 870. If I try buckshot or slugs its longer for my shoulders sake.

I am going to film my shooting with timer. Who all here has the fastest time with 6 shots of 12 gauge pump? What is your time and what gun are you using?

Last time I was timed, it was 5 rounds in about 2.5 seconds, IIRC. It was a Remington 870 Express with 2 3/4" 00 buck.

Way back when, I saw a guy do 5 poppers at 50 feet in 1.67 seconds from port-arms...not too shabby. That's on a Pact timer, not somebodys wristwatch either, and that was a bone-stock 870. Pretty quick when you consider he's waiting for a random delay beep, shouldering and *connecting*.

I think you'll also find that the the guns that fire with the trigger held back while cycling (Model 12's, 37's, 520-30's) don't have any advantage. You still have to line up on a target and that's what takes time. FUN, I'll admit...

Don't know how fast,but I have an old 37 that has no disconnect and can be fired like SilentHitz describes.I read a story on Herb Parsons that said he held the trigger back(old win 12's like he used also had no disconnect)and pump like crazy to set his early records for hand thrown clays.I wonder if firing like this will damage a gun if done a lot?

Just hold the trigger back on my Ithaca 37 and start pumping. Never timed but around 4-6 seconds.

I think my Ithaca only holds 4+1.

I can fire it amazingly fast, though.

I gotta' get an Ithaca 37!

When I was in SOI West in the late eighties, the Marine Corps was using Rem 870 eight-shot 12 gauge guns with reinforced synthetic stocks and 'compromised disconnects' that made them slam fire in much the same way. Loved to get my hands on one, and a big carton of that free 'gum-mint' 12 gauge 00, and blaze away!

I have no idea how fast I am with any of my pump guns but I am silly fast reloading either my 10ga or 12ga H&R/NEF single shot turkey guns. Thank you, Clint Smith!

I have seen the 870 emptied faster than the 1100 several times. I can't do it because it does take practice and that gets expensive and painful.

I have a Winchester 62A .22 pump that I use for practicing rapid fire every now and then. You have to pull the trigger each time so I tend to get it jammed.

I had a JC Higgins .22 semi-auto I bought from Sears when I was young that I figured out that if I had filed the sear off (proper term?) it would have been fully automatic. I never did that but it would have been easy to do and probably very dangerous.

More likely the hammer would follow the bolt down and make it a single shot.

Can all Ithica 37 be fired by holding down the trigger and pumping?

Or is this something that has to be modified in order to do this.

870 faster than a 1100???? I've seen Jerry Miculek shoot .13 splits with a 1100. Never saw anything like that with a pump.

Not all Ithaca 37's will slamfire.

It's the older ones that do it, I'm pretty sure.

I think they stopped manufacturing them to do so sometime in the 70's, if I remember correctly. If I do remember correctly, all of the riot/police models will slamfire.

Use my 870 skeet at skeet and works fine for doubles. Have used an 870 at doubles trap, too.

Tell you what guys, anyone near me that wants to put some serious money on whether I can get shots off faster with my 390 as opposed to their Mossberg or Rem 870, well, just let me know. I can always use the money from guys that make a lot of mouth noise and little with their guns.
Think about it for a half a ficken second, all I have to do is pull the trigger and the gun cycles instantly almost, no thinking, no pumping. I am sure I can pull an Semi auto trigger faster than you can pull a trigger, pump the gun for 4 inches +/_, return to battery and pull the trigger again. It doesn't make sense, much less be a possibility.
With a gas auto it happens so fast it is barely noticeable. I have several friends that are fast with a pump, I mean REAL fast, but none have ever gotten off rounds faster than I do with my gun, pure and simple.
I know the pump crowd think there is nothing better, faster or more useful than a pump. Even in a HD situation I would prefer a semi auto as in what happens if your pump hand is all of a sudden disabled, with a semi, I could at least keep shooting. And as far as the "reliable" BS,, I have YET to have either my 390 or 1100 ever, I mean EVER fail to function if kept even somewhat cleaned.
I have laid it out for you, bring your pump( and money) and meet me and we will see the reality of the pump/semi debate as to which is truly faster to cycle.
