what gun to choose

i have a 7mm-08 savage and it is amazing. ive dropped every single deer i shot with it and they were pretty big bucks....i am thinking about purchesing a new guna and i am leaning toward a 270 savage.....can i have some help?

Umm, if you are wanting a different rifle, why not get a different caliber? .270 and 7mm are basically the same bullet. The 7mm-08 will pretty much do anything that the .270 will do, but in a smaller package. Just like the old argument of wether the .308 is better than a 30-06. Basically the same, until you get into the really heavy .30 cal bullets.

If you want to go up in Caliber, then I would suggest you go with a .308 as your next one.

If you want to go down in Caliber then get a .243.

IMHO, getting a .270 when you already have a 7mm-08 is not going to fill any niche you may have in your rifle line-up...

No lkidding just keep what ya have ,and if you want to gt up go much bigger ,like a .338 or a 270 weatherby

,the 7mm-08 is a good round ,what is the purpose of the new gun squirels

,BTW I love my .270 greatest round ,I like it ,you can shoot out a lot further than the 7mm-08 flatter JMHO

The .270 offers absolutely no advantage on deer until you start getting over about 250 to 300 yds.

If I was going to go up in calibers I would get a 308 or 30-06. A 270 is basically the same gun. I currently have a 7mm mag and a 243. My next gun is going to be a 7mm-08 or a 270.

I prefer the 06 case (I know, not exactly 06 but extremely close), so its 270 for me.

I voted .270 but if I had a good 7mm-08 I would jump big. Like .35 Whelen.

No reason to get a 270 if you have the 7mm-08. For more deer hunting, you can go in a couple directions....distances actually. A 400 yard hunting rifle, which you probably don't need. Or a good woods carbine. A Marlin in 30-30, 35 Remington, or 45-70. Slap a 4x scope on that sucker and hunt in the woods.

The 7-08 covers the use of the 270, 280, and 308. I'd consider a 30-06 because it can drive 180gr bullets to 2800.

I agree that the 7mm 08 is a great round and the 270 Win is close in performance so I would step up and get a 7mm Mag as the recoil is manageable and the round with a 160 grain round is a big game killer at longer range then the 7mm Mag. If you reload it also shoots the same bullets as the 7mm 08.

My son shot this 300 class bull at 297 yards this year with my Sako 7mm Mag with a 160 grain Hornady bullet going 3010 FPS

I picked the 270 just because I favor that one over the 7mm-08. But as others have said, they are very close in performance to each other. If I was in the market for another gun, I would want something a little different. I would probably look at the 7mm mag, 243, 25-06. Heck, I probably have 10 hunting rifles and the one that always goes in the truck when I go hunting, regardless of what else I take, and I find myself using more than the others is a stainless Marlin 30-30. It's light and with the Hornady LE it's a tack driver.

Go with a .308. For anything including black bear and elk the .308 will do the job and it's not a caliber you already have. If you're looking at hunting large, or dangerous game try the .338 Win Mag. That will get the old heart pumping.
