Kel-Tec PMR-30 First Impressions
My father recent picked up a Kel-Tec PMR-30. We’ve only put 50 rounds through it, but I figured I’d post my first impressions of this interesting handgun, and do a full review later after some more time with it. We put 50 rounds through the gun as it comes right out of the box. There was no pre-cleaning.
The Kel-Tec PMR-30 is a very light handgun. Even with the addition of a full magazine. Getting all 30 rounds is a challenge. I called it good at 27 rounds. Also, pay close attention to how the manual says to load the magazine. You’ll save yourself a lot of frustration (upon reading that other PMR-30 owners are either laughing and/or nodding their heads). The grip is rather slim. People accustomed to 1911s and other slim-gripped handguns will adjust fine. However, if you’re used to a wider-gripped handgun, like me, be prepared. The noise and muzzle flip are slight, and what you would expect from a short barreled .22 Mag. The only issue we encountered was that a few times the slide locked back as if the magazine were empty when it wasn’t. Based on other reviews I’ve read I hope and expect this issue will go away as we break in the gun. Simply depressing the slide-release brought it back to working order.
