Where are all the mall ninjas when you need one???
Today, April 2, 2008, police locked down the Dolphin Mall in Miami after four fugitives, suspected in a home invasion chose the mall as hide out.

Well, I guess we have confirmed that Gecko45's unnamed mall is not the Dolphin Mall in the Miami-Dade area.

Just to keep this tactical, what do you think of the police department's actions? By closing the mall and not permitting any one in or out, a hostage sitation could have ensued. I'm not saying that they should just let the home invaders go, but public safety needs to be a consideration. If the bad guys were cornered and a fire fight ensued, there could easily been some collateral damage. Eventually they forced everyone to leave, but that was a few hours into the ordeal.
That mall happens to have a Bass Pro Shop. Imagine if the bad guys went in there! The would have practically limitless ammo.

I think I would have done pretty much the same thing the police did.
Watch the exits--including the employee or service exits--make sure I knew who was leaving the mall, get everyone--customers and employees--out of the mall, sweep and clear the place. And make sure that the employees were all properly identified and whatnot, so one of them wasn't KO'ed and their uniform stolen or anything. Oh, and check the roof, also. They might hide up there. I dunno, maybe I'm just paranoid like that. |

The Mall Ninjas were still duct-taping M1As to their backs.

The first thing I thought when I read this was the same thing stephen said. Collateral damage could be really bad in a shopping mall.
Just think how badly this could have been if the police DID find them. Bad place to have a shoot-out. |

But, then, you do have the mall security to help out. A helicopter would help some here, I think. |

A chopper would be useless unless pursuing a vehicle. It is darn near impossible to see faces from above.

I just was thinking that the more sets of eyes there are outside the mall, the better.

maybe the mall ninja, dressed all in black covered in tactical gear, was detained by police first and later released as he was guilty only of looking stupid.

They had to close the mall to buy time to dig ~800 7.62x51mm NATO bullets from the mall security FN-FALs and M1As out of the walls of the Build-a-Bear Workshop... not to mention vacuuming up all of the fluff.
