OPENION on .22 Hornet loads

I have had 5 or 6 Hornets over the years.
I have two good loads, over the years:
All loads are with 45 grain bullets
7.3 grains of IMR 4227...Down loaded but, I could cover it with a Nickel at 150 yards.
9.9 grains of 2400. I can cover it with a dime. This load suprised me!

I have tried Winchester 680 and 11+ to 12+ grains of 4227 and got 1 1/2 inch groups.

13gr. of Lil Gun and a 40gr. Hornady. Unbelievably good accuracy in my gun.

This was first and only powder I've used in the gun because of the lower pressure and consistency. Use it for P dogs.

+1 for the DR

I like Lil Gun also. Very good accuracy. I like the 40gr HP and the 35gr BT. Start at about .3gr off max and watch the COL.

Pappy,
One thing that you will discover with Hornets is that
the brass life is very short. And no life at all if you load Hot.
Start low and work up slow. Find a load that’s accurate and
does not tax your brass. It is not uncommon for me to get
4 sometimes 5 reloads with this load.

45GR V-Max and 9.5 Gr of W-296.

Ditto on LilGun powder.

The use of the Lee collet die will extend case life.

I used to own and reload for 22 Hornet. My favorite load was WSP primer, 10.0 gr WW296 with a 45 gr bullet. It gave about 2,600 fps and was pretty accurate. I liked it better than 2400 because I load the powder for 357 Mag.

Since Lil Gun was not yet available by the time I got rid of my Hornet, I have no load information on it other than several people I know use it and love it for the Hornet.

I have a Ruger #1 and a Winchester Model 43 in the Hornet. Both guns are most accurate with Lil Gun (All I can get in the hull) 13.8 grs. using Hornady 35 gr. bullet. These will group in a dime all day @ 100+ yards.
Have tried all powders suggested for the Hornet but none work close to Lil Gun.
