Sellier & Bellot SPCE (soft point cutting edge)

Finding factory hunting load for the 7x57 can be challenging sometimes. I should start to handloading, but I'm a hunter not a shooter and it's hard to justify the startup cost.

I tried a new load in preparation for whitetail/hog hunting. I've moved up for 140 grain soft points to 173 grain SPCE bullets from S&B.

First thing that surprised me was that I didn't have to change my scope setting for POI. Darn things hit within 1/4" of my 140grn loads. I'm also getting very good groups too; just a hair over 1"/5shots. Hot damn, I've been excited over 1.5" groups. Not bad for a full stock Ruger #1.

Oddest thing though. The bullet holes look like they were punched out with a hole punch. Cleanest edges I've ever seen; suppose from the cutting edge "collar". I wish I hadn't misplaced my camera cord.

Anyone else hunting with the SPCE bullets/loads from Sellier and Bellot? How's the bullet performance on game?

It's not as far out of reach as you may think... You can certainly go bigger, but for the hunter/once-in-a-blue-moon shooter, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on a new kit. Just add a set of dies...
