any way to avoid wear line on the cylinder of sp101?
im in the market for one but all the used ones ive looked at have the wear line, is there any way to avoid it. im looking at a used one that is perfect for $290 and plan on shooting it a lot.

well it looks like im gonna win this sp .357 for $290. the guy says he shot it once and put it away and it sure looks like it. no wear line yet.....

The revolver would have to have perfect timing and never operated in the double action mode for you not to have a cylinder ring.

yep i got it. $290 + 25 shipping + $60 for the transfer = $375 into my safe.
not a smoking deal but not too bad i suppose.......

I asked the same question a while ago, and was told that some gunsmiths actually consider the line to be a good thing. It tells them that everything is working correctly. I don't remember the exact reasons and everything. I'd give you a link, but the stupid search feature at the S&W forums never works.

Can't avoid 'em but they can sometimes be "erased" on a stainless revolver, with some reasonably careful work.

2 questions...
If you plan on shooting it alot, you're gonna get the line there anyways so why would this be such a concern? $60 transfer fee?! Anywyas, enjoy your new aqusition! I've had one for years and really like it. Even with some good 125gr.ers it's not too bad. A spring kit from Wolff helped the action a bit.

Drag lines
Well on a S&W you can reduce, if not eliminate the drag line by putting a high polish on the top of the cylinder stop. If it came from the factory rough on top it will sure mark more than a mirror shine one. But beware in polishing it you don't want to change the contours much or make it narrower. I use rubber Cratex abrasives with a Dremel tool. Just try the finest grit first and polish the top and maybe polish the sharp edge on the corners without rounding them off very much. Just break the edge. Also try to close the cylinder with the chamber fairly well lined up so that the stop is not in between the notches somewhere causing it to contact the cylinder outside the normal areas where it touches in rotating.

(did Joe Friday ever really close his gun that way?) I asked somebody much older than I that question. He said that it was Boston Blackie (played by Kent Smith on TV). He snapped it shut while standing in an alley where nobody could see him. No. Det. Sgt. Friday never abused his revolver. RIKA |

$60 isnt too bad here in california.80-90 at some other local spots. it also includes the reg wich is $20 here and i save in sales tax 8.5%.
