Help me decide which AR-15/M4 $900-$1250ish-- BPM AR15?
Hello, so I really want an AR-15/M4 and my lgs has talked me into it. My budget is $1000 to 1300 or so..
My dealer recommended a BPM (Barnes Precision Machine) its $1219.99. I have never heard of them. I seen Colts 6240 but I really want something with a rail and good for about 500meters. I don't like the SS barrel look, I like it all black. Thanks. |

Mod 2 looks good, has rail.
I hear BCM is a growing, very good company. Might settle there. |

Usually when someone ask for a AR recommendation they ask "whats the best AR I can get for the least amount of money" and usualy even if they don't I feel compelled to let them know that they don't have to spend anywhere close to $1300.00 for a really good AR, but if I were wanting to spend $1300.00 on a AR I would probably get a Bravo Company RECCE-14 Model 0http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/2BCM780140-1.html

I bought my first last year. A DPMS Recon. SS barrel 16" .
What I bought it for was TSHTF. I scoped it out and am working on a load. The bullet I selected was the Hornady 75gr BTHP match for its terminal performance. I wish I would have bought a barrel with a faster twist as a 1:9 is pushing the twist rate for the bullet. I also wish I had bought a longer barrel, 18" or 20" The best I can shoot with the H 75gr is about 1" at 100 yards. I know I am not doing my part but if I was I would hope to see well under a 1/2". Still working at it but light bullets tighten the groups up to less than 3/4" It is plenty good for the reason I bought it |

I've never heard of BPM, but then again there are so many AR manufacturers out there now. I thought you meant BCM, which is a more highly recommended brand than others.
For arguements sake, your lgs is not always the best source for firearm recommendations. They will recommend what they have in stock, not really the best quality one. |

BCM makes great guns. I took it to F2S Consulting's "Practical Carbine" course and didn't clean it between training days. It was a new gun with under 200 rounds through it. It flew through 1,100 rounds before it jammed once.

RRA makes what I call their hunter series.
18 to 24 inch barrels, intended for long range varmint and predator shooting. M4 type rail on the top. If you want to shoot reliable accuracy you need to get the barrel up to 18-20 inches the way the M16 was originally intended to be. Short barrel works fine sub 200 yards but you have lost that velocity edge that carries the bullet and flat trajectory on out. As I recall, ATH, Coyote, Predator Pursuit and maybe one other I am missing. Well made gun, guarantee 3/4 MOA. Makes a nice mix of hunter with a tactical angle that works fine. Great trigger and usually some free options like Chrome bolt group. |

For $1300 you can have a good AR and more ammo and mags than you can carry.

If I were to buy a complete AR15 right now, I'd go with BCM.

The Colt 6920 is a basic setup, but they have several new models out there that include a number of different features, like a Magpul model and a SOCOM model that features a quad rail. There's also the 6940 with it's monolithic upper if rails are truly want you want. Colt has a lifetime warranty as well.

BCM Recce 16 $1;299- Have a couple with no issues and they are put together correctly. 1 moa guns with a 5 shot group and will eat anything
YHM $1,299 - Just got my first (Spectre length rail) and it has been awesome. Only 1K down the pipe so we will see...no hiccups yet. RRA ATH $1,100 - Great for a hunting set up. But also a great all around gun with the 18" barrel. Last 5 shot group with FGM ammo was .47" CTC @ 108 yards. Just wish they would get away from commercial diameter tubes/stocks.
