Colt trooper MK III -----What to do?

I have a Colt Trooper MK III 6 inch Blue S/N J561XX (1969) on hold at my local sports store.

The asking price is 699.00 LNIB. They say the gun was never fired by the previous owner who bought it brand new .

The gun looks about 99% Not a mark on it.

Box looks almost brand new.

That's a fair price,not a great deal...but a fair price.
I'd say go for it. A lgs in my area has one in very good condition with some wear for $629.95
You can check out collectorsfirearms.com for comparisons. their prices are pretty good on most firearms, they have thousands of guns.

That was a quick decision... sounds like someone over ruled your tentative purchase. I really like my Trooper Mark III in 357mag. It's my favorite shooter for the range. But I paid less than $350 for mine about 5 years ago in similar condition. Price as others have said in my opinion is upper end of fair market. But I will say that I saw one for sale at about $1000 a couple of months ago at a local gunshop. That was high. $650 would have been fine if I were in the market.

A few people I know who wanted a Python but couldn't afford one,,,
Have opted to purchase a Trooper Mk-III instead.

About the only real similarity between them and a Python,,,
Is the cartridge/caliber and being made by Colt.

I'm not downing them at all,,,
I own a 4" Mk-III in .357,,,
And a 6" Mk-III in .22.

I shoot them often and appreciate them for the fine handguns they are,,,
On some early morning walkabouts on a friends farm,,,
The .22 has taken several bunnies for his dogs.

$699.00 might seem a bit on the high side,,,
But a Trooper in that good shape with a pristine box,,,
I'll guarantee it won't stay in that gentleman's store for too long.

The .22 versions often go for far more than the .357 versions.

Colt revolvers are like real estate,,,
They aren't making any more of them.

Buy a real trooper! A pre 1970 production trooper (before the MKIII and MKV guns). The MKIII guns were cheapened by Colt and used sintered steel. They are good overall, but not as good as the old troopers. The trooper below has a better trigger than most Pythons I have handled or shot.

Good to know as I'm putting mine on Armslist, hopefully for a local sale, tomorrow. I'm getting out of the Colt revolver business (nothing against them, just trying to thin the herd and I like S&W a lot more).
