M&P Holster Question 5 inch ext. barrel
Greetings, Can someone help me out with a Holster Recommendation for my Full size M&P 40. Features I'm looking for: 1. OWB 2. open muzzle design (I have a 5 inch extended bbl on it) 3. some type of click retention like als or similar. 4. Sounds like I'll need kydex for that. 5. Need to have it lined with suede or similar material. don't want to scratch it up. Thanks for any help

M&P extended(Pro Series)...
I'm not sure if you mean the full size(regular model M&P 9mm/.357/.40S&W) or the larger Pro Series(like the big .45acp M&P but in .40 or 9mm).
The only common brand I'm aware of that markets a Pro model M&P series holster is Blade-tech; www.blade-tech.com . Other holsters or custom rigs in polymer/Kydex or leather(bull horsehide rhino shark etc) may be had at a higher price/$$$. Thanks Clyde I can clarify, this pistol is a full size 357 sig (same dimensions as 40) Full size 357 sig with an aftermarket storm lake 5 inch bbl. I would like to get a lined kydex holster for it. Thanks

Custom holsters...
From what you posted, I'd consider a custom Blade-tech polymer or maybe a custom Highnoonholsters.com Skin Tite with a body shield.
The concealment factor may be a problem. If its for field or OC, the synthetic Safariland SFS/ALS could do very well. It's lined & offers retention(ALS-SFS). Safariland is a shooting industry leader & they provide duty gear/holsters to spec ops, military forces, LE agencies, armed citizens. Blade-tech has the thumb-drive style Kydex but I don't think it's lined. Clyde |

Blackhawk SERPA is a good option, although it's not lined... I haven't had any scratching on mine.

SERPA...
I own a SERPA left hand I used for my full size(regular) M&P 9x19mm.
If the member has a extended custom barrel the Blackhawk rig won't work. SERPA's good just wont work for the custom set-up. Not w/o the barrel tip extending out. Clyde |

Thanks Clyde. What does the sfs stand for? Would you happen to know if the 6378 ALS safariland is open at the bottom? (Muzzle open design) seems decent for a $50.00 holster

SLS...
It's SLS; Self Locking System.
I'll check on the rest. The customer service reps or FAQs may help. NOTE: HighNoon Holsters FAQ has a huge article on the firm's state of the art holster liner fabric. That may be ideal if you are concerned about the pistol's surface. CF |

I don't see any reason why the extended barrel won't work with the Serpa, ClydeFrog. The bottom of the Serpa holster is open, so the barrel would have no obstructions.
Perhaps I'm missing something...

Update: I ordered the Safariland 6378. The bottom is indeed open Should work just fine. 1. Kydex, 2. Snaps into place, at least some retention 3. Fully lined, should be easy on the finish. 4. $45.00 bucks, no to bad. I'll update when I put it to more use. Thanks for the feedback.

Great...
Keep us posted. I wasn't sure if you wanted full coverage of the entire pistol(including the barrel/muzzle) or if you wanted a open style that could fit a regular or extended barrel type pistol.
